W. Barron, editor of\nThe Wall Street Journal and other\nAmerican financial publications,\nproved himself' a warm and optimistic friend of the Allied cause. In\nhis newspapers he constantly fights\nour battle for right and justice and\nhuman freedom against the mediaeval monstrosity which seeks by ruthless means to subjugate the world.\nMr. Barron sees through von Beth-\nmann-Hollweg, s lofty uttrances on\nthe subject, of peace. In The Wall\nStreet Journal he says; \"Having\nscored below the line in game points,\nby reason of superpreparedness and\nselection of card's, Germany is ready\nto disregard the honor score, add up\nthe sum of her military advantages\non land and negotiate for freedom of\nthe seas, expansion of German trade\nand influence, and compensation for\nGermany's sacrifices on behalf of\npeace.\"\nAccording to The Journal, Germany, without conception of human\nor national rights, principles or\nspirit, sits up aloft, and says, \"We\nare now ready to receive overtures\nof peace which insure Germany's\npermanent, gain.\" The writer empha\nsizes the immature character of German political and national thought.\nPrussianized Germany, the youngest\nnation in Europe, has been taught\nthat war is a \"Kulture game.\" The\nImperial authorities have declared\nihat Germany had only to push the\nwar far enough to show its own invincibility and the surounding nations would pay Germany the cost\nof ihe war as the price of their\npeace. There is nothing moral or\nethical In (he Hun conception of in-\nii rnational relations.\nFor many months Prussia has been\nexclaiming; \"We havi won; no en-\nem; has taki n from our territory.\nIt now depends'upon the enemies of\nGermany as to how far they desire\nto push the sacrifices of war, after\ntheir utter rout on every side and\nthe failure of their diplomacy In the\nsoutheast.\" To this boastful attitude\nThe Wall Street Journal makes reply: \"The outside world, the American world, the Asiatic world, the African world, knows that Germany is\nbeaten and will have to accept and\nnot dictate terms ol peace. The outside world knows that this struggle\nis over principles, and that Germany\nand her system cannot survive; that\nthe world outside her trenches is\ngrowing stronger, daily, than the\nworld within her, and that the end is\nonly a question of time.\" Months\nof fighting will doubtless be required\nto drive home the truth to Berlin,\nand to this end all the resources of\nthe Allies are still required in order\nthat the most terrible conflict in history may be shortened. But the end\nis inevitable and in his heart the\nKaiser must know it.\nFREDERICK PETERS. K.C.\nBarrister, Solicitor and Notary Publl.\nOffice in\nEXCHANGE BLOCK\nJ. H.
