Wylie, showed steady gains\nin families, communicants and large\nlaws, royal commission on decimal currency, simultaneous adoption of the\nmetric system throughout the empire,\nmutual protection of patents, treaty\nobligations affecting dependencies of\nthe Empire, and the strengthening of\nBritish influence in the Pacific in\nview of the construction of the Panama\ncanal.\nWhile doubtless much time will be\nthe general condition of the road.\nIt is very probable that the line will\nbe officially taken over before the\nend of next week and trains will\nbe running immediately thereafter.\nWhile the question of the time-\nschedule has not yet been definitely\nsettled, there is talk of a daily run\nbetween Spences Bridge aud Nicola for a period of about a mouth.\nThis would soon get the roadbed in\ngood condition for traffic when the\nschedule is put into effect.\nAn extensively signed petition\nwas handed Mr. Marpole today\nasking that the trains run from the\nBridge Tuesdays, Thursdays and\nSaturdays and from Nicola Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.\nA conference between Mr. Marpole and the local townsite owners\nis being held today and it is expected that as a result of this the\npresent uncertainty as to when t la-\nlots will be on the market will be\nsettled.\ngains in the amount paid to tho mission-1 devoted to a discussion of preferential\nary funds of the church, also the general revenue for all support had made\ngrowth.\nThe home mission report was presented by Kev. R. Carrington conducted the\n| Methodist service in Lower Nicola on\nj Sunday evening last.\nthe federal house which makes St.\nPatrick's day, 1907, a national holiday\nthroughout the Dominion. All business\nof every kind will be suspended throughout the entire day from midnight to\nmidnight. Stores and offices will be\ncompelled to close, no baseball, lacrosse,\nfootball, hockey or other games will be\nallowed. In fact there will be nothing\ndoing on St. Patrick's day this year owing to the new law. Hotel bars will be\nclosed and if any Irish gentleman intends to celebrate by consuming sundry\nquantities of the best Irish beverages\nhe will have to lay in a supply the previous night. The new bill does not prohibit the holding of meetings in churches\nand Irishmen may hold services but no\nparades will be allowed.\nAs this is the first occasion of the\noperation of the new law, the effect of\nthe act will be watched with interest\nnot only hy Irishmen, but by all Canadians whose business on St. Patrick's\nday will be affected by the recently\nJ. Burtt Morgan, formerly of Grand\nForks is now getting out a bright and\nnewsy sheet at Chilliwack called the\nFraser Advance.\nThe V., V. & E. tracklaying crew\nhave completed the bridge across the\nOkanagan river. Track has been laid\nthrough Oroville and to the bridge over\nthe Similkameen river two miles above\nthe town.\nMr. and Mrs. Dodding are visiting\nthe coast cities. Most of the merchants\nin Nicola, and down the line, can\ntake your measure for tailor-made\nclothing superior to what these roving canvassers usually pass out, and\nat a lower price, too. They are\nenabled to do this by reason of the\nobvious fact that they have no middlemen's commissions and travelling expenses to pay. Your local\nmerchant is here to stay, and you\ncan depend upon getting what you\norder; he is dependable; he holds\nhis trade by satisfying his customers.
