New requests for hospital\n| comforts have been received by the\nProvincial Work Chairman, and the\nworkers are asked to make these as\nsoon as possible, as such supplies are\nbeing called for in increasing quantities.\nDuring five years of war, B. C.\nworkers have turned out articles ln astronomical quantities. From the mll-\n\\ lion and a half yards of material received have been shipped to England\nnearly 3,000,000 ltemi, while 105,000\npound* ol wool hai been converted hv\nto 571,081 wool comforts.\nWith the end of the war against\nGermany approaching, workers are\nasked not to slacken their intereit.\nThere are thousands of civilian items\nof clothing and knitting to be turned\nout. Thousands of pain of socks are\nneeded, while hundreds of sweaters,\nwith exception of khaki sleeveless, are\nrequired, Included in the new quotas\nfor hospital comforts are 4000 pairs of\npyjamas, 400 pneumonia jackets and\n385 convalescent shirts.\nIndian Officers Many in\nHuge Army Pointed\nAgainst Japan\nWhen the last war ended there\nwere only 12 commissioned Indian officers ln the Indian Army. The process\nof Indlanization had progressed so that\nin 1939 the number was 307.\nThe Indian Army itself has grown\nenormously from some 200,000 in 1938\nto the present strength of 2,250,000 Indians, of which over 10,000 are Indian\nofficers\u2014that is, 35 per cent of the officers in the Indian Army. The policy\nis to increase the percentage as rapidly\nas is practical until it reaches 100 per\ncent Indian.\nIndian divisions are formed of Indiana Army and British Army units\nbrigaded together. Originally the Indian Army followed a policy of placing\nIndian officers ln command only of Indian troops. This policy has now been\nabandoned, and Indian and British officers may both have European and Indian troops under their command.\nLooking Backward\n10 YBAR SAQO\n(From thi Ntlion Dally Newi, Sept. 18, 1934)\nGyro memben bid the opportunity Friday\nof heirlns Mljor H.
