A survey of the trade\nstatistics of Canada and the. British Empire for the\ncouple of months indicates that the Empire ia rapidly\ntaking advantage of the concessions effected by the\nagreements, which have now been ratified by all the\nImperial Parliaments.\nTake ft seasonable article, for instance, Canadian\nturkeys for the Christmas trade are bringing top prices\nin the markets of London and Liverpool. Most of the\n800,000 pound's shipped from Canada recently have arrived In the United Kingdom and have been sold. Most\nof the turkeys come from the prairies, and it is the\nfirst time they.have been sold in any considerable vol.\nume on the old country market The experiment has\nbeen a marked success, proving that our turkeys can\nbe delivered by cold storage to the United Kingdom\nmarkets in as good a condition as those anywhere in\nthe Dominion. They are not frozen, but kept at about\nS3 degrees Fahrenheit from the time they are killed\nuntil they are offered in the shops of England. The\nexperiment was originated by the Canadian Poultry\nPool. In former years the Canadian turkey surplus went\nto the United States, but this year there is not only\na prohibitive tariff barrier, but such a curtailed pur-\nchaiing power that the bottom has fallen out of that\nmarket\nSome 68,000 pounds of Ontario honey were recently shipped to the old country, thus opening up a new\nand profitable lane of trade and commerce.\nA cable from the Canadian Press correspondent\nin London says that British Government figures show\nBritish trade during October and November made a\nsharp recovery both in imports and exports from the\nlow points reached in September, indicating that an\nupward trend will be sustained which will untimately\nreduce Britain's unfavorable trade balance. Figures for\nthe 11 months ending November SO showed that Can*\nada gained a considerable advantage in exports of some\nproducts to the United Kingdom. There was an increase in the export of wheat and other grains, and in\nhams and bacon and cheese.\nThere can be no doubt, in the face of such facts\nnoticeable in only a few weeks, that the ultimate benefit to Canada and the United Kingdom also of the new\nagreements will be of vast proportions. As far as Can.\nada is concerned, .hut out as she is from the United\nStates market, the only alternative was to turn to Britain and the rest of the Empire.\n\"Between Ton\nondMe*\nBy \"J.B.C.\"\nMB. So long as private\nmanufacture is permitted and the agents of the arm.\nmament trust continue to foment suspicion and ill-will\nat international conferences and to influence the actions of diplomats and statesman the cause of the\npeople, which is the cause of peace, will progress slowly.\nThe world public is only beginning to learn of the\nexistence of a sinister international organization for the\nmaking of weapons of war and the fostering of re.\nliance upon force for national safety. Lieut. Col. Drew\nof Toronto has done much, by speeches and articles, to\ndraw the attention of the world to the nature of the\nforces at work to prevent the establishment of peace\nand goodwill.
