Of whom ls Dr. H. J. John\nof Cleveland speaking?\nHe Is speaking about \"fat\" people.\nUnfortunately for some of these fat\nfolks, they have been reading In the\npress that some cases of overweight are\ndue to lack of the Juice of thc thyroid\ngland In the neck.\nThey thus get the Impression that\nthis elng overweight ls really not their\nfault, and ao they take some thyroid\nextract and keep overeating and under-\nexerclslng the same as usual, with no\ndecrease In weight.\nNow as a matter ot fact W out of\nevery loo cases of overweight are due\nto Just one thing\u2014overeating.\nThe one ln the hundred that due to\nlack of thyroid can usually be detected\nby the fact that he or she was always\nfat; a fat baby; a fat boy or girl,\nextra fat about the age of puberty\n(13 to 16 years), and increasing ln\nweight as the years pass.\nThat thyroid extract taken under\nthe supervision of a physician can reduce weight In this type ls undoubtedly true.\nNow the best thing about this whole\nbusiness ls that folks are really awake\nto the fact that overweight is something that means more than being uncomfortable; lt means as mentioned\nabove, that they are taking serious\nchances with health and life Itself.\nOn the other hand the taking of\nthyroid extract is not the only mistake\nmade by these overweight individuals.\nIn a heroic endeavor to reduce weight\nthey will cut down on their food intake even to the point of fasting for\na number of days, and the results are\noften disastrous from the standpoint\nof heart and blood pressure.\nNumerous cases of collapse can be\ntraced to this lengthy fasting.\nPractically every case of overweight\ncan be reduced by the simple method\nof cutting down on the general food\nintake about ten per cent and the\nstarchy foods about twenty per cent.\nWhere there Is a willingness to take\nexercise also with body covered completely by woollen garments, the decrease is more rapid, and strength Is\nbeing attained at the same time.\nStage and screen, pollce reports, lost\nand found; fl:30 to 7:30, The Cecil-\nlans; 8 to 13, Varied program.\nEfficient\nHousekeeping\n\u25a0?
