TLe admiral dis\noovered that tbe Russian fleet,\nwhich consisted of six battleships,\nfive cruisers and 14 destroyers, evi\ndently had planned a dash south\nward by sundown.\nThe Russians stopped outside\nthe entrance to the harbor and\nafter nightfall a fleet of Japanese\ntorpedo destroyers attacked the\nRussians ships and succeeded in\ntorpedoing and sinking a battleship of the Peresviet type and dis\nabling the battleship Sebastopol.\nA oruiser of the Diana type was\nalso observed being towed into the\nthe harbor on Friday morning and\nit was evident she had sustained\nserious damage. The position of\nthe government was merely this,\nthat they would issue a licence to\nany applioant. It seemed that\nsome places had been staked over\nand over. The aggregation is this\nyear more than twice as large as it\nwas a year ago, and it now requires\n20 double length railway oars to\ntransport it, but it is not the rapid\ngrowth that makes tbis show so\npopular bnt the meritorious performances they give. ThiB\nyear they have not only added to\ntheir menagerie many rare animals\nand trained a variety of new and\noriginal animal acts, but they bave\nengaged the most expensive and\nstrongest aots of a gymnastic and\naorobatio nature known to the circus world.
