The results-of heavy trucking and constant' battering on some, of\" the thinner concrete roads in use'in -wartime is adding weight- to the growing opinion that concrete roads should be made thicker to meet the' demand for modern motor traffic. Dr.-Pascow worked on an elaborate investigation in order to determine the value of a test in which a 2%-inch cube of the material is subjected to a large number of blows applied, by.a miniature pile driver. Curiously enough, while the crushing and tensile strengths increased with the age of the materials, its resistance to blows decreased. The tests and conclusions arrived at by this undoubted authority indicate that there is no definite relationship either between the crushing or tensil-T strength and the resistance of the material to \u2022_. falling weight. Dr. Pascow's death occurred before he was able to entirely complete the tests he set out to accomplish, but the results of his labors have been published and sent to eminent engineers all over the world. Hoffar Bros, tender was nearly $2,000 lower than the next lowest of the five tenders submited to the city council, and nearly $10,000 lower than the highest tender of the lot, submitted by a North Vahcouve?;firm of boat builders. The tender was only for the construction of the hull and equipment, exclusive of tbe engine, which io.a four-cylinder, JO-horsepower plant which was formerly'installed in.tfc,e city's old police patrol boat, and which was taken but and.given a thorough overhauling after the hull of the old patrol boat had outlived its usefulness. E. Henderson, Davis chambers, the plans for a two-story, reinforced concrete and u hollow tile feed storage warehouse which is to be erected in Mission City shortly. This structure will have the distinction of being fhe first rein- forcedrOijncrete building in the Fraser \"vvj Valley town, and will be erected and occupied by Mr. T. E. Cutler, a prominent merchant of Mission, who intends -to reduce the fire risk on his stock of feed to the absolute minimum.
