Experience is snowing that ordinary\nmacadam, while often the only\nstyle of road building within\nthe means of a thinly populated\narea, will not stand up under\nmodern road condition.\nIn the report on work accomplished during the past season the Ontario highways department includes 44.0 miles\nof bituminous concrete, 48.25\nof concrete, and 11.25 miles of\nbituminous macadam. Before\nwork ceases there will be a\ncontinuous paved surface from\nNiagara Falls to Brantford by\nway of Hamilton, and from\nLondon to St. Thomas. There\nare smaller stretches of hard-\nruifaced roads in the vicinity\nof other cites, as well as the\nToronto - Hamilton highway,\nbuilt by municipal and provincial cooperation, which have\nbeen added to the provincial\nsystem during the year. A\npart of the Bloor-Dundas highway has also been completed,\nand ultimately there will Ik*\ntwo hard-surfaced roads between Toronto and Hamilton.\nBoth will be needed to accommodate the great volume of\ntraffic to and from the Niagara frontier.\nA continuous improved highway from Windsor to the Quebec border paralleling Lake\nErie and Lake Ontario is the\ngoal of the highway department.
