There\nwere present His Worship Mayor Rogers, and aldermen Fink,\nGreer, Tisdale, Jackson and\nRyan,\nMinnies uf last meeting were\nread and adopted.\nThe Board of Public Works\nreported as to side walks.\nMoved by alderman Jackson,\nseconded by alderman Tisdale\nthat the name of city solicitor\nThompson be struck out from\ndelegation to Victoria. The\nmotion was lost. Upon motion\nof alderman Jackson seconded\nby alderman Ryan, that motion\n131, appointing mayor Rogers\nand city solicitor Thompson as\ndelegates to Victoria be reconsidered.    Motion was carried.\nMoved by alderman Jackson,\nseconded by alderman Fink, that\nHis Worship mayor Rogers be a\ncommittee of one to confer with\nthe Provincial Government at\nVictoria re-government building\nat Cranbrook. It was also moved and carried, that His Worship\nMayor Rogers be a committee of\none to confer with the provincial\ngovernment at Victoria re-gov-\nernmenl and city buildings at\nCranbrook. It was also moved\nand carried that His Worship\nthe Mayor, when at Victoria,\nask Mr. Thomas Cavin to assist\nhim when interviewing the government.\nThe Mayor then left the chair\nand appointed alderman Jackson\nto preside in  his absence.\nBy-law No 9 being the health\nbylaw was then read a first\ntime. By-law No 9 was read a\nsecond time Council then resolved itself into a committee of\nthe whole to consider by-law No\n9, with alderman Jackson in the\nchair.\nIt was moved by alderman\nGreer seconded by alderman\nTisdale that alderman Fink, or\nin his absence alderman Greer,\nbe appointed to perform the\nduties of mayor at the reception\nand banquet to be tendered to\nthe Associated Boards of Trade,\nin the absence of the Mayor.\nThe motion was adopted.\nCouncil then adjourned.\nLying in State.\nMontreal, Jan. 24.\u2014Flags are\nflying at half mast on all public\nbuildings and a large number of\nprivate buildings throughout the\ncity, out of respect to the late.\nHon. The Chieftain's\naddress or essay on Burns was\na masterpiece and well worthy\nof that gentleman's acknowledged ability in literature and\nparticularly Scottish. It would\nbe most difficult to ,do justice\u2014\nwith the space at our disposal\u2014\nto all the participants as all were\nof a very high order of merit.
