When Ineor\nporatlon was proposed, the same\nold objection of increased taxation has been made, in many\ncases it was  the  owners   of tho\ntownsite that objected.   But In'\neach  and    every    incorporated\ncity in  British   Columbia today\nyou  will  litid   that   there is not\none citizen  who opposed  incorporation  who has not  changed\nhis mind.    And why?    It is true\nthat   nominally   they have paid\nsomething more in  the  way of\ntaxation     Hut there  have  been\nadvantages that offset this greatly to the gain of the citizen.    In\nCranbrook today li to 8 per cent\nis paid for insurance.    With an\nefficient system of waterworks,\ngreatly improved, and owned by\ntin- city,  Ihe cost ot insurance\nwould  be   reduced   one half al\nleast,  and an ample supply of\nwnier   would be   obtained,   the\nsystem extended  to every  portion of the city.    Hotel licenses,\ntraders licenses,  which  at present all  go   into the provincial\ntreasury,\nMining and smelting men who\nare Interested  in zinc,  are not\nalarmed at the possibility of the |\nAmerican   government, placing\nan   import   duty   on   zinc ores. |\nLabor Day will be celebrated al Cranbrook. If   incorporated  we\nwould have lo pay our police\nofficer's salary, also the salary of\na city clerk and treasurer and\nsoma other expenses, hut these\namounts will not  sum  up anything like  what we now send to\nVictoria, and the  balance to our\ncredit will be substantial.   These\nviews are thrown out  for   the\nconsideration of citizens, and we\ntrust that the whole matter will\ni b,! discussed from an  unprejudiced   standpoint,   and with a\nview nl arriving nt the  wisest\nconclusion in the interests of the\npeople  of  the   future  city  of\nCranbrook.\nThe high level of  copper  price\nwill continue just  as long as the\npresent  industral  prosperity of\nthe world last.\nThe activity in mining through\nout Southeast Kootenay is remarkable, not only are the Moyie\nand Kimberley camps being\ncarefully inspected by operators,\nbut the placer camps of Wild\nHorse and Perry Creek are being visited.\nThe Sullivan group of mines\nis shipping its regular amount\nof ore. about 110 tons, each day\nWedding Bells.\nHeenan is Missing.\nJohn Heenan, an old time miu\nA quiet wedding was solemnized in town on Wednesday\nmorning of this week when Mr.\nJohn Albert Nettertield of \"The\nQueens\" and Miss Violet Whaley\nof Cranbrook were united in\nthe holy bonds of matrimony.\nThe ceremony was performed\nby Rev. J. P. Westman. Mr.\nAlbert V. Walsh and Miss Ethel\nPeverelle acted as bridesgroom\nand bridesmaid.\nAfter the ceremony, refreshments were served, and the bridal\ncouple left on the morning train\nto spend their honeymoon in\ndifferent cities of the Province.\nMoved by A. With\nthe road once completed, it is an\neven bet that both our smelters\nwill he put into commission and\noperated continuously, as there\nare scores of properties along the\nvalley only awaiting cheap transportation.\nP. MePherson, C. P. R. right-\nof-way agent, arrived in Golden\nlast Monday from Winnipeg to\narrange   for   the   right-of-way.\nHe   promptly  opened   negotiations  with  H.  G.  Parson, the\ntowusitcjigftnt. for the purchase\nof   thirty  or  forty  lots on the\nsouth side of the Kicking Horse,\nand on Tuesday morning made\nan early start to drive to Windermere  to  make    the   necessary\narrangements with the settlers\nalong the road through whose\nproperty the road will run.\nThis afternoon a party of C.
