Well, grandmother, if 1 had not\nseen it with my own eyes, I could never he-\nlieve that one's work would get on so fast,\nonly by doing a little every day. Look at my\nstocking, see what a stretch it has got, only\nby knitting a little every evening, between\nlight and dark, a time that I commonly did\nnothing in.\n 14\nGrandmother. We seldom know what can\nbe done, Jenny, till we try ; but you will\nhave more benefit by it, than you think of\nyet; first, you will knit quicker every day ;\nand by the dim light you knit with, you wall\nsoon learn to knit without light as well as\nwith it, and that same may be of use to you\nsometimes ; but above all it will teach you the\nvalue of time when you see what a little of it,\nwell applied, can do. You will soon have a\ngood pair of stockings ; and since you began\nto get up half an hour before the rest of us,\nyou have the house so neat in the morning,\nand yourself washed and combed for the day,\nthat I am quite pleased with you,\nJenny. And 1, grandmother, am puite\npleased|also, to have your good opinion : but\nI wish you would tell me, were you ever idle\nfor one hour ?\nGrandmother. Oh, yes, Jenny ! but the\ntime came that I found every hour too short.\n15\nI was left a young widow, with five helpless\nchildren ; the youngest on my breast; and\nafter paying my husband's funeral expenses,\nI had not more than a guinea to begin the\nworld with. Then, Jenny, that Bible that\nyou think me so fond of, was a comfort to me,\nOur Lord says, \" Let the widow trust in me ;\"\nI did put my trust in him, and, blessed be his\nholy name, he has never forsaken me. You\nknowr I reared all my children, and put them\nin some little way of doing for themselves ;\nand now, among them, they support me com?\nfortably in my old age.\nJenny, That is the least they can do,\ngrandmother i but I wish you would tell me\nhow you, a lone woman, managed with sucli\na family.\nGrandmother. Sometime or other, perhaps\nI may : at present, I will only tell you, that\nthough I was up early and late, I did not find\nI had one minute to throw away ; and though\n 16\nI was looked on as an industrious woman in\nmy husband's life-time, I now, found I might\nhave been a good deal more so ; so I set myself, as well as I could, to make the best use\nof every hour as far as I knew how. And it\npleased God to prosper my poor endeavours,\nand I hope he will hear my prayers, that\nyou and I may so number our days, as to apply our hearts to wisdom.\nTHE END.\nPrinted and Sold by J, Kendrew, Colllergate.\nv_\n","@language":"en"}],"Genre":[{"@value":"Chapbooks","@language":"en"}],"Identifier":[{"@value":"PZ6 1820 H559","@language":"en"},{"@value":"PZ6_1820_H559","@language":"en"}],"IsShownAt":[{"@value":"10.14288\/1.0375973","@language":"en"}],"Language":[{"@value":"English","@language":"en"}],"Provider":[{"@value":"Vancouver : University of British Columbia Library","@language":"en"}],"Publisher":[{"@value":"York, [United Kingdom] : J.
