REPORT OF THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD.\nINTRODUCTION.\nThe Liquor Control Board presents the Eighteenth Annual Report covering the operations from April 1st, 1938, to March 31st, 1939.\nThe accounts of the Board, certified to by the Comptroller-General as required by section\n120 of the \" Government Liquor Act,\" and the statistical data as required by section 115 are\nshown in the Appendices as follows:\u2014\nAPPENDIX A.\u2014ACCOUNTS.\nBalance-sheet  .~1 Statement of Accounts for the periods April 1st,\nTrading Account  L       1938, to September 30th, 1938, and October\nProfit and Loss Account J        1st, 1938, to March 31st, 1939.\nAPPENDIX B.\u2014LAW ENFORCEMENT.\nStatement of Prosecutions, April 1st, 1938, to March 31st, 1939.\nAPPENDIX C\u2014ADMINISTRATION.\nRegulations and Amendments thereto.\nAmendments and Additions to Price-lists.\nStatement of Premises owned, leased, and rented.\nStatement of Prescriptions for Liquor issued by Physicians.\nStatement of Permits issued from April 1st, 1938, to March 31st, 1939.\nChart illustrating by Electoral Districts the Sale of Liquor and the Administration of\nthe \" Government Liquor Act.\"\nGOVERNMENT LIQUOR STORES AND WAREHOUSES.\nArrangements were made to occupy new premises in the town of Terrace, and on December 22nd, 1938, a Government Liquor Store was opened at that point to replace the store\nwhich was destroyed by fire on February 9th, 1938.\nSTAFF.\nThe number of employees on the permanent staff of the Liquor Control Board as at\nMarch 31st, 1939, is 307, being 291 males and 16 females.\nThe Board wishes to record through the medium of this report its appreciation of the\nloyal co-operation and endeavours of the staff during the period under review.\nOn August 1st, 1938, a system of superannuation was instituted in conjunction with an\nInsurance Company in connection with the members of the permanent staff. It was felt\nthat such a scheme was essential in the interests of justice to the employees, recognition of\nlong service, and efficiency within the service.\nSTOCKS.\nThe value of the stocks of liquor on hand as at March 31st, 1939, amounted to $1,156,238.52,\nbeing a decrease of $19,861.66 under the inventory figure at the end of the year immediately\npreceding.\nSALES.\nThe total sales of $13,738,097.26 show a decrease of $372,061.55 under the previous period.\nFor comparative purposes classification of sales is given hereunder for the fiscal years\nended March 31st, 1938, and March 31st, 1939:\u2014 T 6 BRITISH COLUMBIA.\nComparative Classification of Sales.\nWines and Spirits  Year 1938-39. Campbell River (attempted)        Nil\nAll the above claims were settled in full by the Insurance Company without loss to the\nBoard. Saleable merchandise to the value of $250.55 was subsequently recovered from the\nSidney burglary.\nThe Board wishes to express its appreciation of the excellent work of the Provincial\nPolice in connection with the burglary at the Government Liquor Store at Sidney, where an\narrest was made and a conviction obtained, in addition to the recovery of a large quantity of\nthe goods. The Police officers were greatly assisted in their work by the promptness of a\nresident of Sidney in giving valuable information, and the Board also wishes to highly\ncommend the action of the Canadian General Insurance Company in financially rewarding\nthe citizen for his efforts.\n.
