L'owne, T. ] McDowell, and the speakers of the evening, Mi. F'olev, Mr. Wilkes and Mr. I. B Kerr. Mr. .Foley delivered the opening address, and w.,s most cnihusiasiK-nlh received. Altei lcteiung to the progress of Ins .ainpai;_n throughout the constituency and meeting Hon. Clifford Siftou on the pl.-tioim at Grand Forks, he compaied the claims of the Laurier government tuconsiuei- ation from laboring men, to its treatment of the recent fisheries stiike on the Fraser river. He s[ioke strongly against Japaneseand Chinese immigration to the province, and believed there bad been hood I ing at Victoria, otherwise how does it occur that such aliens were made British subjects so quickly. Mr. Foley spoke for nearly an hour, and it was plain that the audience was with him. He closed by calling on R. I_. Kerr, wIjo s|)olce in sui>|>ort of Mr. Galliher, the liberal candidate. Mr. Kerr said it gave him pain to oppose s<) good a man as Mr. Foley, as he himself had been in favor of a labor candidate. He tried to explain why he was not supporting Mr. Foley, and closed with some forcible remarks. James Wilkes, of Nelson, followed Mr. Kerr, and gave his reasons as to why a third party bad been placed in the field. He dealt with Premier Laurier and the liberal party, and concluded by explaining why be felt so sure of Mr. Foley's success at the polls next Thursday. The effect of the meeting was distinctly favorable to Mr. Foley, and it is generally conceded that he will have a very large vote in tlie Poundary.
