The new Alien Theatre at the corner  of Georgia and Seymour streets in  heralded as the finest motion picture  theatre in the west as well as the city's  largest playhouse in point of seating  capacity. ..-,-.-  lt ,1s indeed fitting that Vancouver,  admittedly \"ihvpaest show city in the  whole western^'*half' of the continent,\"  ih experienced^theatrical men are fond  of quoting it,-whoufdr henceforth be in  a position ' to' po\"*nt with pride to the  finest \"motion picture playhouse in Canada. This new temple of the silent art.  forming the latest^' biggest and best of  a chain of 5S splendidly fitted, equipped  and furnished theatres owned by the  Allen Brothers of Toronto, who are operating theatres in twenty-one Canadian  cities, represents an expenditure in this  city of over. $400,000 before the first  ticket  was sold  on  Monday.  It has been customary to speak of  now theatres as \"representing the last  word\" tn playhouse construction. Vancouver screen fans can  still  remember  the decided   thrill  which  went  through  the community when  the  first  announcement   was  made  that   the'  Allen   interests   had   purchased   the   old  .Waverley   hotel  corner and   intended   to  demolish   that   venerable  structure   and  erect upon the site a theatre, that would  set a  new standard for a picture playhouse throughout ail of this broad Dominion.    Those  promises,   roseate   though  they may have seemed at the time, have  been   fully   lived   up   to. In   a  damp   climate   such   as   this,   such  care in the initial stage of a building's  life  will,  according to eminent  building  experts, result  in keeping its fresh  appearance almost  indefinitely. The auditorium of any theatre is generally' the   most  attractHe  part   of   the  playhouse,  as  far as,finish  and  decorations are concerned! - And there has certainly been  no attempt  to make an  exception   to   this  rule  in   the  case  of  the  ! new Allen theatre.-   There are \"four large  aisles  leading into   this  big  auditorium, i  which   despite   its   seating   capacity    of  1-iOO.    looks    so    perfectly    proportioned  that  its real- size is at first hardly  apparent.    Most striking feature.to  catch  the   eye   upon   entering  are    five    large  mirrors on  each* side of the auditorium  which   were   supplied   and   installed   by  Wm. X. O'Neil Co. Ltd.    The four aisles  chilis' room conveniently located to -the  orchestra stand. Over on the right are  quarters for the janitor where supplies  can be kept.  Instead   of   the    usual    Mgh-pVrcJied  DECLARES DECORATIONS ARE  UNSURPASSED   ANYWHERE.  .\\nd just  while on  the subject  of decorations and fittings, list for a momont  to   the   o\\-peit   opinion   of  a   recognized  authority on that subject.    Mr. Thos. L.  Musgrave,    decorative    expert    for    the  Hudson's   Bay  Company,  which  supplied  all the decorations and furniture for the  new playhouse, declares that there is no  theatre  on   the  continent  that   will   surpass   the   .-\\llen   in   the   matter   of   real  artistic  merit and excellence  of decorations and  fittings.    Mr. Musgrave ought,  to know, for he took a trip east to New  Voile,   Chicago,   and  a   number   of  other  hi:r American and Canadian cities to inspect   the  best   thoy   had.   and   with   in-  strucxions   to   design   and   order   something   better  for  the   local  house.     And  he feels quite confident he has'done so.  The lamp standards  and lamp shades  are all  finished   in gold and  polychrome  to harmonize  with  the prevailing  tones  of tho decorations,    The Allen  will also  have    one    of    the    most    sumptuously  fitted-up ladles' rest rooms of any  theatre on the Pacific coast.    The rest room  is   done   In \" black,\" gold   and    mulberry,  which   with   the  furniture   in   ivory  enamel,  makes  a  very-artistic and pleasing contrast   indeed.  In thorugh keeping as far as quality  is concerned, are the. costly carpets laid  in the new playhouse, the deep pile of  which gives one the right feeling and  atmosphere immediately upon entering.  The carpets laid on the main auditorium  aisles, mezzanine floor, boxes and loges  are all In a two-toned smoke-grey hi'-'h  grade of Wilton. The same make' of  carpet also in smoke grey is laid in'ihe  ladles rest room on the lower floor  while that in the rest room on the mezzanine floor is of Axmlnster, air oi  which .was supplied by the Hudson's  fiay   Company.  ; tically on  the same level,  is a comfortably equipped lounge to  which  is given  an   added   touch   of . hom'elik'eii'osB   by   a  fine   fireplace   In    the    centre.
