As to when the governmont\nwould repeal the Navy law, If at all,\nPremier Uorden said the policy of the\ngovernment would be announced in due\ncourse.\nHon. William Pugsley's two page\nquestion on the subject of the ne temere\ndecree was again on the order paper.\nMr. Pugsley repeated the questions asked by Messrs. Hughes and Taylor last\nsession, and the answers given by Sir\nAllan Ajlesworth. He wanted to know\nif the present government concurred in\nthe opinions of the former minister of\njuBtice.\nMr. Borden said that the governmen'.\nregarded with the utmost consideration\nand respect the opinions of the late\nminister of Justice on questions of law.\nAs to what action the present government proposed to take. thes matter bad\nnot been under consideration.\nErnest Lapointe was told that the engineers of the Transcontinental railway\nexpected to have the New Brunswick\nportion of the line completed by Sen.\ntember, 1012, and the Quebec portion\nfrom the New Brunswick boundary io\nthe St. Lawrence river, by September\n30, 1918. The question as to the operation of the line by the government before the completion of the Quebec\nbridge had not been considered.\nHudson Bay Railway\nDr. Neely, Humboldt, moved lor all\npapers in connection with the letting\nof bonds on railway contracts and for\nan order issued by Hon. Frank Cochrane, minister of railways, in suspending work on the road. He snid that the\naction of the minister, which was practically his first official act, had caused\nintense surprise in the west where tlir\nearly completion of the Hudson Baj\nrailway was looked upon as a matter of\nsupreme Importance. Dr. Neely reviewed the progress that had bee\nmade on the Hudson Bay project sine\n1908 when Sir Wilfrid Laurier made the\ndefinite announcement that the hovciii-\nment proposed to go ahead with th?\nwork.\nThe prime minister when in the west\nlast summer, had told the people thi'.:.\nIf returned .to power his government\nwould build and operate the line. Yet\nthe first act of the now governmen:\nhad been to stop work on the contracts\nlet by tbe late administration. Mr. Borden had also promised that the Hudson\nBay railway would be completed in four\nyears, and the action of the minister of\nrailways ivould not assist him in making hiB reputation as a man who kept\nhis word.\nMr. McKay, Conservative member for\nPrince Albert, said that he was prepared to endorse some of Dr. Neely't*\nstatements as to the necessity for the\nconstruction of the Hudson Hay railway. He was not prepared to agree,\nhowever that the present governmen!\nhad done wrong in stopping the contract Had Mr. Neely been as zealot\nin tiie last few years as he was now\nmore progress might have been made\nwith the railway.\nHon. Frank Cochrane, minister of\nrailways, who spoke briefly, said On'\nthe government proposed to carry out\nany promises made in regard to tho\nconstruction of the line to the bay. R-iu-\nresent at ions had been made to him,\nhowever, that the first section of the\nline ran In part through a deep swamp\nand that it might be possible to select\na better route. The contract had been\nheld up in order that an inquiry might\nbe held. There would be no more delay\nthan was necessary to check up the surveys.\n\"What,\" he said, \"have I to show that\nthe existing surveys are any better\nthan those on the N.T.R.\"\nIn nearly every caBe on that line,\nthe estimates as to the cost had been\ndoubled. It is level, free from stone, and has JUBt enough Blope towards the lake for a fine irrigation system. L\nThis land poBitive'y does not require irrigation for orchard purposes, but as an insurance water is\nalready laid on this property with a registered right of 32 inches.\nThe rainbow trout and salmon fishing at this part of the lake is unsurpassed, and the hunting grounds\nfor big game are immediately adjacent to this property.\nAb a money-njaking fruit farm proposition it cannot be beaten; besides the price is so low that the\nnatural increase in the value of the land will pay a handsome premium on the investment.\nThere are IB acres cleared, 12 of which are planted with apple ti^eeB of standard varieties, and the\nmajority of them bearing.\nThere is one acre of strawberries, and one acre of black currants and other small fruits.
