A.\nson, a mining engineer from\nYork.\ney spent the early part of\n|week making some prelimin-\nlarrangements in town, after\nthey proceeded up the\nnon to look over the Big Mis-\nji, prior to inaugurating an\ntensive development program\n[eon, in the interests of a\n^pany recently organized for\n; purpose in New York with\nCapitalization of $2,500,000,\n, known as the Portland Canal\n|ies, and a subsidiary company\nDrporated under the laws of\n,ish Columbia, with a nominal\nlitalization, and known as the\nJy Mines, Limited. The\nier is the holding company\nItrolling all the stock of the\nIer, which was organized as\n(operating company.\nA. Wilson is a mining engi-\nfr of wide experience, and un-\n[ recently was in charge of a\nge copper property in the\nJth. Owing to low copper\nces this property closed down\nand left Mr. Wilson free to come\nnorth in the interests of this\ncompany.\nHe left for the Big Missouri\non Wednesday, accompanied by\nPat Daly and Dan Lindeborg.\nSeveral will be spent in thoroughly going over the ground\nand mapping out a program. As\ngood winter camps are already\nestablished on the property no\ntime will be lost in getting to\nwork once a definite line of action\nhas been decided upon.\nThe Big Missouri has for years\nbeen considered one of the most\npromising properties in the district. Its vast surface minerali\nzation and known deposits of\nhigh grade ore, leaving no doubt\nin the minds of many mining men\nwho know the ground but that it\nwill eventually produce an enormous tonnage of marketable ore.\nThe group, which contains\ntwenty claims, was located a\nnumber of years ago by Dan and\nAndy Lindeborg, is situated in\nthe Salmon river basin, and being\njust beyond the Premier mine, is\nvery easy of access. With a good\nroad to within a short distance\nof it supplies can be taken in any\ntime of the year.\nFinished Work\nThe United States government\nIl crew came down from Texas\np, Tuesday last, having\nashed their work for the sea-\nwhich consisted of building\nle miles of trail beyond the\njdge over the Salmon river.\nlis the intention to eventually\nlend this trail through to the\nft of the Salmon glacier, there-\naffording means of tranapor-\npion for the claim owners of the\npr Salmon basin. Joe staked some land iai\nthe Hazelton country and intends j\nreturning to it for the purpose of j\nengaging In farming.\nTHREE PROPERTIES GIVE PROMISE\nBig Strike by Mahood on Bush Mines\ufffd\ufffd\ufffdIdaho Group\nLooking Good\ufffd\ufffd\ufffdPat Benson Strikes Ore in Tunnel\non Lucky Boy Group\nGrant Mahood, while doing\nwork on the Bush property,\nstruck a large body of high grade\nore. The company, which owns\nthis property, the Bush Mines,\nLimited, did considerable work\nsome time ago, consisting of two\ntunnels and several open cuts.\nIn driving the tunnels they apparently mistook the dip of the\nlead for the strike, \"with the result that they had not gone far\nwhen they ran out of the ore.\nMr. Mayhood, who is one of the\nlarge owners in the company,\nwas of the opinion that this is\nwhat happened; therefore he has\nrecently been up at the property\ntrying out his hunch by driving\nlead to be ten feet wide, and that\nit retained the high grade silver\nvalues obtained on the surface.\nIDAHO GROUP.\nClay Porter and George Mehlfeld, who have been working all\nseason on their Idaho group on the\nnorth fork of the Marmot, are reported\nto have been getting very good results\nin the tunnel which they have been\ndriving. The lead on tha work being\ndone is widening out very rapidly and\nlooks so good that the owners are reported to have stated that they may\ncontinue to work the property all winter. This property is about opposite\nthe Silverado mine, on the opposite side\nof the mountain.\nLUCKY BOY GROUP\nPat Benson, the locator and one of\nthe owners of the Lucky group on Fish\nthree crosscut tunnels, two in No. I creek, waa in town the other day with\n1 and one in No. 2 tunnels. The\nfirst crosscut he ran in from near\nsome nice looking ore from the face of\nthe tunnel which he has been driving\nthe portal of No. 1, and had not |on this Pr\ufffd\ufffdPerty- At the time of going\n\/. -^1 \ufffd\ufffd\ufffd.*.\ufffd\ufffd\ufffd u n u I to press the assay results were not\ngone far with this before he en- .;. .. _.\nobtainable. From here he went\ndown to No. 2 tunnel, from\nwhere he ran another crosscut,\nin which he again picked up the\nFish cretk and Salmon river valley.\nThe showings are low down, instanced\nby the fact that the tunnel in which\nthe ore has been obtained is only about\n100 feet above the bottom of the valley.\nThis tunnel was driven to crosscut the\nlead. This work showed the lead, which has been done in 80 feet.\nHELP YOURSELF\nA very splendid exhibit of\nores of this district is being\ncollected for display at the\nMineral Exposition in Chicago.\nWith the record of the Premier mine behind it, this exhibit will be the greatest advertisement that the district\ncould have, for it will bring\nto the attention of the mining world more forcibly than\nanything else the possibilities\nhere lying dormant.\nWhat helps the district\nhelps every individual therein.\nThere will be some expenses in connection with\nthis exhibit that the district\nwill have to stand, therefore\nwhen the time comes help\nyourself by helping the local\nmining industry.
