Sir George Frederick Samuel Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon, was born on 24 October 1827 and died 9 July 1909. He was the son of Frederick John Robinson, the 1st Earl of Ripon and Lady Sarah Albinia Louisa Hobart. (Frederick John Robinson was the second son of Thomas Robinson, 2nd Baron Grantham ; the first son is Thomas Philip Earl de Grey). Sir George succeeded his father's title on 18 January 1859 among other titles that year ; he also succeeded to the title of Viscount Goderich. Sir George was an active politician his entire life. He held the office of a Member of Parliament numerous times, including: Hull (1852-53), Huddersfield (1853-57), West Riding, Yorkshire (1857-59), North Riding, Yorkshire (1873-1906).
