THE EVENING SUN -v atf VOL. 1 GRAND FORKS AND COLUMBIA, B.C, FRIDAY, JULY 25, 1902. NO. 176 rn } lei I 111.I The Granby Company Will Shortly Install Them at the Smelter. It is understood that as A result ol the visit of the Granby officials to this city, an order will be placed shortly with a Chicago firm lor the installation o( two additional lurnaieB at the Oral)by sm.-lter, bringing its capacity up to 2100 tons per day. Arrangements have been made with the Cascade Power company for the supply of Ihe extra electrical power that will be required here and at the Phoenix mines. The Cascade company has just completed the survey ol its proposed pole line into the Granby smeter, aud it is leported tbat the work of building tno line will be Started immediatelyr The officials, including President S. H. C. Miner, left yesterday for Phoenix, where they will inspect the Grauby minesr Bridge poultry farm at about 4 p. m. Saturday, aud drank at the well and also watered his horse. He acted in a very peculiar manner and kept bis back turned toward tbe house. Several members of the family came out into the yard, but be resolutely kept his face from them. He mounted his horse in a very stiff way and rode toward the west. The peculiar baldness or short ness of hair below the man's hat was commented upon alter he left. He waBvery much tanned and was without hair on his face. TOPICS OF THE TOWN The wagon bridge across the V., V. & E. cut 00 Cooper's ranch was completed on Monday, aud is row open for traffic. It is reported that tbe Kettle Va ley lines bridge at Curie.v will be completed tomorrow night. The Victoria hotel has changed hands, Chas, Sally and Fred Russell being the new proprietors. Tbe work of laying tbe stringers on the V., V. & E. bridge acrosB the Kettle river, below th s city, is progressing rapidly. W. J. Gallipo's thiee-year-old boy fell into the Kettle river near the C. P. R. bridge, Wednes ay evening between 6 anil 7 o'clock, and wus rescued by Fred Mc('all, aged 6 years. The river bank at this point is very steep, and the current is swift, making the work of rescue difficult, and an act o heroism worthy ol more than passing notice ou account of Ihe lender age of th 1 life saver. Mr. A, H. Wagner, lumber merchant of Plum Coulee, Manitoba, arrived in Ihe city yesterday, and will visit his fr.end, Al. Wright, lor a few days. Mr. Wagner is on bis wuy to the coast. If you want to keep co >1, go to the North pole. A NEW CURE FOR A GOSSIP. To the Editor of the Evening Sun. There seems to be a rupture in tbe peace aud prosperity of our dear brethren, the communicating Christians of tbe Anglican fold within our midst. By the way, two cackling hens will disturb tbe most sedate flock of geese that ever trod a batn-yard. There is an old adage tbat when a hen got broody or mean, to dip it in cold water as a remedy for its ill temper. Christ in Mis teachings has never touched on this branch of Christian ethics—tbe remedy or cure of a gossiping shrew. The writer would humbly suggest tbat what is needed is legeneration and re- baptism, and he would also suggest .a return to the customs and practices of tbe early Christian church and resort to baptism by immersion, and whilst Christian people are exhorted to often partake of the Holy Communion, the matter of re-baptism as a wholesome diet is unaccountably overlooked, Let the church establish an energetic baptismal revival either weekly or monthly, as often at least and in conjunction with the Lord's Supper (and the reasoning is analogous), the writer believes a panacea for this deplorable condition would have been found. Aud again, to quote a paragraph of 1 the moat respected and Christian man, | the Bishop Dart, in his pastoral to the I clergy and lahv, dated June 11 and 12, 1902, on another topic: "But it is not ; infrequently said tbat many who be- | gin to attend our services are ch-lled laud discount, ed by the attitude to- | wards them til the other member* of the congregation. There is an absence, so it is said, ol that Iriemlly greeting and recognition which would be extended to them elsewhere Ii this he the case, and I fear it is often so, then our demeanor is directly opposed to the teachings ol the church, which i< now ns 110 distinction of clashes, and proclaims the Brotherhood ol \ Man." I his is must true and applicable; yet deplorable, of our Anglican brethren. Would tbat it were not so. Veritas. WINDSOR CAFE ...AND... ALBERTA HOTEL Under One Management Mrs. A. M.
