Jt is officially announced by the admiralty in releasing the vessels from transport service, for -which ■ they were commandeered, to again resume commercial routes, that the Empress of Asia will bring some 2,500 British Columbia troops here direct from England by way of the Panama canal. This is conceded in marine and military circles to be not only an excellent and admirable arrangement, but it ensures the three British Columbia battalions who are coming on the big C. P. R. liner the advantage of trans portation ' one one of the finest and best fitted-up vessels afloat, entirely without change from the time they leave England until they land almost at their own doors.. It will also permit of a greater and more united welcome to the home-coming warriors than if, they came in by troop-train loads, which would naturally be limited to about 500 at a time. The Asia, with the B. C. boys aboard, is due to arrive about the middle of January. As the C. P. R. has a well-earned reputation for looking after all the troops it transports in ^the best of styled it can be taken as a foregone conclusion that the returning-B. C. men who come aboard the Asia will not have the complaints 'of poor commissary arrangements that have been reported in connection with so miny Atlantic transports of late. In the case of the Empress of Russia it has been decided to send her back the way she originally came out—-via the Suez canal and the China sea. She will resume her run from Hongkong, and is expected to arrive here about the first week in February. Tne Russia has the most wonderful) record of any of the C. P. The majority of these objectionable structures are located in the east end and foreign section of the city, although there are a number scattered all over the city— even in the, effete west end. And when the building inspector recommends their condemnation there can be little excuse of war-time strengency or scarcity of labor now. Besides these buildings whose condemnation is imminent there are a lot of other rather ancient buildings in/the city which, while structuraly safe, do not comply with the present building bylaws in many notable respects. A joint campaign for the remedying of these conditions is planned by the city health and building departments in the near future and the action will be.indeed timely. Chinatown will ccihe in for a considerable share of "attention in this regard. -.■';'■' PHONE SEY. 316 COOKING UTENSILS WRIGHT BROS.
