Twenty-seventh Street has been suggested as a suitable^ place for a school to be built, but'Chairman Garthorne, a resident of Dundarave, declares that it "is not suitable,'and it is possible that the board will proceed with the school on Twenty-second Street. '"f. z. \T<-*e*> for Every Purpose NEW WESTMINSTER—Whether to postpone construction of the proposed concrete retaining wall at the bridge approach until a more convenient season, or import labor from Vancouver, is a question the City Council will probably be faced'with shortly. Supt. Furness of the Board, of Works^ has been ready some time to commence operations- on this project, but has been unable to get men locally. Pie is arranging, however, to divert the water at present carried through the cribwork at that point, and to run it into the sewer. In his opinion, this may obviate the necessity of building the wall this summer. The slipping of the old cribwork he attributes mainly to the leakage of water from the old drain and once the water is diverted it may s*tand indefinitely. VANCOUVER—As ■ a,result of the policy adopted by the Board of Harbor Commissioners in reserving a site on Industrial Island in False Creek for the Dominion departments, the government at Ottawa will shortly, prepare to establish departmental supply depots here, it is believed. The Harbor Board has set apart for the government a four-acre tract at the eastern end of the island with provision also for a turning basin: for vessels just off this point. One-half of the site will be for the deparment of public works and the other for the department of marine and fisheries. Other departmental stores will also be placed there and it is hoped that before long an office building for officials of the marine and works departments will be erected on the property in addition to the necessary warehouses and sheds. The matter Is now being taken up with Ottawa by the harbor commissioners with a view of increasing the amount of departmental business transacted by the Dominion Government in the city of Vancouver.
