This week the most v e'coirc news reaches us concerning the developments up;. 11 ninny of the quartz prospects under explo'.tat'o;.', and we are also ple.-srd 10 report that sevcal promising groups; at the south end of the lake have been taken upon a working bond by Mr. W." H. Hile, of Philadelphia, whose arrival was chronicled- last \*eek. It is .understood' that the consideration in each case-is. a good one, and as Mr. Hile is known not' to do tilings 'by halves, we ' may look for startling' developments when lie gets" to work *next season, provided the-properties--come up to expectation." " " " -"," We have today received a report from Mr. M. Clere, Consulting Engineer, that the Engineer Group has just given a new example of its possibilities. Some weeks ago we gave a detailed description of the various ledges upon which work had heeu done. Since that time prospect work has been continued, and a few days ago, in.blasting out the croppiugs of the Toronto ledge, they have encountered very rich ore, similar to that of the Mill Test ledge, and full of free gold. This ledge had been prcviousl}* very little prospected, and the news of its richness must be extreme]}* gratifying to the com pan}*. Where prospected the ledge is distant from the Mill Test ledge about 2500 feet. Iv. is the intention t,f the company to continue the development on the Toronto ledge during the winter, and it is to be hoped thai the excellent prospects just uncovered will prove even better, if such were possible, in the development. It is understood that the company has crossed the fault in the Foundalicn ledge and have cut into the main ore body aud are now drifting due east along the ledge in very highly mineralized rock, averaging with the ore found in the main cross cut. The ore shoot which was recently discovered in the main tunnel is very-visible on the walls and bears evidence of being a clear cut vein within the ledge, it measures two feet, but as yet no drifting has been done. From surface indications on the Gleanerville properly it was expected that the cross-cut tunnel would strike the lead within ^ninety feet, but the dip of the ledge became so-acute that although they were in over one hundred feet, they have, so far failed to strike-the ledge. As they are 'bridging the ledge the ruck is becoming very highly luiferaiized. Work 0:1 the properly is. suspended, but wiil be resumed earl-* next spring. -'umples h;ut.-just beei. shown us from the A.oiher lode, and, they .-;.lii-fy the desires of tlie- :.;o-t exacting. On a new shaft. ' beryut* about a week ago, the solid iedge matter has bsen encountered about .eight feet below the surface, anti shows just, as fine t'rcn miHing quart;*, as one would w sh to sea The quartz .:s of a g.ayish-white colour, with visible free gold evenly distributed throughout. The prospects are so gratifying ti at work will be diligently prosecuted. Tlie stamp mill on Monro niountaiii'has crushed, so far, .some three or four tons of ore from the .first cut made on the . ledge, with, it iii:der.sUod., sati.si*:ctor.y returns. ElToils,' will be.made to keep- the.-.mill, running., constantly from now on. ' The ledg-e, where, last uncovered, shows a width' of three feet of.clean ore, though the walls for some distance each side carry, lair.pay. , . "r"Of samples sent to Butte, Mon., some weeks ago, from the White Moose group, the following very satisfactory assays have been received; i's'c. 1. 1.44 oz. in gold; 7* oz., silver; 2.1 per cent in copper and 10 1-2 per cent lead. JVo. 2, 73-100 oz. gold; 63 oz. silver; 16' per cent copper and xo 1-2 per cent lead. Preliminary Hearing. Henning Committed for Attempted Murder.
