ASSA Y OFFICE Gold Dust Assayed, Purchased or Taken on Consignment. ' Quartz Assaying at Reasonable Rates, ' WORK PROGRESSES. Boulder, Wright Creek and , Gold Run Active. Very Late Season, But Minors Are Making- the Most of the High Water. GOLD RUN:-On Gold' Run a very large amount of'work has lieen done during the winter which can hardly be realized unless one visits the camp. The few men who are still there 'are' now washing out their clumps arrd the ' results are eminently satisfactory. 'Howard and partners are world, g, four men sluicing, though at the time of our visa water was rather scarceexcept down the shafts. Before quitting the drifts a new aud deeper pay' channel- was struck iu Howard's shaft, which carries good pay. Mr. Small has two men sluicing out his'dump are making good wages. Mr. Stukey and partner had just commenced to sink on the ridge between Small and Crichtoii.-and were down about 12 feet, the water seems to be falling a's they go clown. - Crichton was sluicing out his dump. Cooper and partners, who have gone up td1Boiilder for 'the summer, had'a very fit.e clean up for the winter's work'? Thomas and partners have shut dowrr for the season, but are well satisfied with the outlook. Kent has gone to work for the Sunrise Co., but intends goiirg to work his property again -next winter. As winter diggings no district offers belter prospects than Gold Run, though it is an expensive property to open up. BOULDER: In spite of' the high water, Boulder is showing signs of much activity, and more men are at work orr this-creek than any other in the-district in comparison. Full advantage is being taken of tlie slate of the water for ground- sluicing purposes, and before the creek gets clown to its normal, air immense amount of labor will have been saved. On No. 1 above, Mr. Rosenberg has rive men at work ground-sluicing. 2 above, P. A. 'Morris has two men at work Oir 3 and 4 Mr. Nickson contemplates going to work. Seaton and Latham are ground-sluicing on the bench opposite 3 above. At 5 above, Mcintosh, of Atlin, has two men ground-1-hiicing and shovelling in and taking out gold. Jack Beat- tie and Clark are getting ready lo sluice on 5 above. Swenceski Bros, arc sluicing and taking out money on 9 or 10 abjve; so also are Van Wait and sous between 12 unci 14. Bainbridge and partners come next and are making active preparations for the first clean-up. Lord and Woods worth are taking out good money on 20 above,. Black and Grant, on their group about 10 \n- low arc doing very well: Shot lie- worth and Co, next u- Black, aic- gelting ready to ground-sluice, and arc taking out- a little gold in' the meantime. 'Almost every creek and bench claim as f:tr down as 35 below is being represented. Several fair nuggets liave been found this season. Boulder is sure to make a record this year. On . the La mare Syndicate's property work is being actively, pushed. A second monitor has been pui in place and another flume laid, with air elevation four feet lower than the old one. Mr. Clere, the Superintending Engineer, is'very sanguine and highly'satis- lactory results are'.looked for. He has ai'i able staff- of men with him and the workings have , been arranged this year- with a view to efficiency at a minimum of expense. In order to accommodate his neighbors on the creek Mr. Clere operates at night so that the individual miners' may have the use oi" all lhe water- during the day. If such a policy were adopted in other [rails of the district there would be less friction aird ill feeling between the individual miners and companies. Live aud let live. , WRIGHT : The Perrdugwig' Sytrdicatehave quite a force of men at work on their property, and have been moving their flumes and pipes "about half a mile down the creek to - a-point which "is considered more advantageous to work from, than where they were working last year. The}', have started ground-sluicing this week, and as soon as piping commences the force of men will be considerably increased. ' The works are under the superintendence of Mr. Bartrim. There are a few me:i at work sluicing oir the Discovery. The Moose Mining Co., on i' lo 5 above, are getting ready for iho. season's operations, "and are endeavoring to consolidate with several other claims iu,.their vicinity, in order that they may have a goud sized property to offer some buyers expected from the east. Porter & Co. have gone to work on the west side of the creek about 8 above, Mr. Tulloch is^'at work on 3 below. It is feared that the season on this creek will be very short, owing to the protracted winter. The creek is rising very rapidly and there is every reason to believe that the freshet will be a big cure this seasorr, so that with the late season arid high water ue cannot look for anything above the ordinary. Satisfactory reports are received from the Alder cteek property and the boomer is a-hooming. Piping 011 the Atlin Lake Mining Co.'s property, on Birch creek, is being actively prosecuted, with a hire head of water. Satisfactory results are anticipated. The Pine Tunnel Syndicate shareholders will be pleased to learn that the big deal is practically completed and that Mr, O. T. Switzer leaves for the east next week. A matter .of* much impoit has been brought to our rrotice by mail received on the la'st incoming boat, which, no doubt, will be welcomed by miners, particularly, these hailing from British Columbia. The Dominion -Government, though pressed pretty hard with the claims of Vancouver for the establishment of a mint in that' city, has respeci- fnlly declined to establish one there," but has appropriated a large sum for the erection of such an institution at Ottawa. However,, the Government has done the next best thing, aud; in combination with the Provincial Government, has agreed to the establishment of Assay offices in Vancouver and. Victoria. In order that-' all business offered this season may be taken, the merchants aud citizens of the former city,* assisted by the Boaid of Trade,' have subscribed over $5000 towards defraying the preliminary expenses of. such. Assay office. Miirers may' now receive from any of the banks in Vancouver the full assay value of all goldequal to the Seattle Assay officewithout any. deduction whatever, upon presentation of a certificate from the Provincial Government Assayer at Vancouver. a reference to this property is'made, in which a statement of the Nim- rod Syndicate gives returns of $10 to the ton. This report also states that the " vein varies in width from 2 to 7 feet and appears to be a well- marked fissure .,'vein." I hope to sec the mine sold and work on the property re-commenced this slimmer. Thanking yon in anticipation for the publication of these remarks. I am', Sir, etc., W. Wallace- Grime. Atlin, B. C, June 14, 1901. Pine City Gossip. LETTER' TO THE EDITOR. Dear Sir:As there appears to be some misconception here respecting the present ownership of the Imperial mine on Monro mountain, the following information-regarding the same may lie of interest to your readers. The proper ty belongs to three English prospectors, Messrs. Moorer Stokes and Jones, and was bonded by them to the Nimrod, Syndicate of London, England, early in the season of last year; development work was proceeded with duriug the summer and results were said to be satisfactory at the time. Through non-compliance with its conditions the- bond lapsed in September last and the property was immediately re-bonded to the Klon- dyke Bonanza Co,, of London, through their Atlin Agent, Mr. Joseph Fall. . For some reason not yet made perfectly clear, the terms of the second agreement were not kept and the bond was forfeited, the property reverting to the original owners, in whose hands it still remains. The title is now perfect, Crown Grants to the claims having been issued some months ago. The report on the property by Mr. Gilroy in your last issue coincides with the opinion of several other experienced men who; have visited the mine since active development work, was stopped. Iu the Summary Report of the Dominion Geological Department From our Discovery Correspondent, The Ruby Creek Hydraulic people are going ahead; they have been prospecting and find their gravel pays from Si.25 to $1.50 per yard.. We are glad to greet friend Dr. Lewis, who has opened an office at the Nugget Hotel. Though, fortunately vve have little need of a doctor's ' services in Discovery, we must wish him every prosperity. We wonder if Messrs. Le Cappel- laiir, " Raiirie McLeod, Conly and Gaddis, who 'visited, Discovery on Wednesday aronriug, enjoyed the .strawberries and cream they said they had at the Nugget Restaurant, or was their attraction other than the luscious berry. Somebody ask Fall of Boulder creek what befell his gum boots? . Nurses Mitchell and Bone, of the Atlin Hospital have been, visiting Mrs. Stubblefield during \ the past week. Black must' be' 'doing t well o:; Boulder; he is said to be buying from ten to fifteen pounds of fish twice a week. , Piscivorous diet is ; recommended for cerebral development, but how about muscular? Someoneperhaps Ro-xie of Discoveryhas built a summer hotel at Surprise lake "Tis said he came to town the other day and asked Dr. Lewis if he could raise apple trees from dried apples. The Dr. told hint, "yes, certainly.".'So he went to Father Newton and bought 1 a box of dried apples, and Tom WThite says he is planting them with the intention of raising an orchard, ' and that he ' has already planted raspberries and strawberries B.C.F.C. & C. Harrigan & Sabin are- having pipes laid from the Sunrise ditch for the purpose of washing out their benches on the the south side of the creek. McLaren & Miller, on Discovery, have ground-sluiced out several hundred - feet of, their north benches and a number of men are now.at work. A bedrock flume has been laid and they intend to work out a big strip of ground with a monitor, drawing water from the Sunrise'ditch. The Atlin-Willow Creek Co. is practically ready for--the season's operations on both Willow creek and the Caledonia group. , Mr. Annibal, about 18 above, oil Pirre, has a few men working aud he reports the prospects excellent. Little individual work has been done on Willow, owing to the depth of frost, however,,it is expected that several claims will ere long be worked. Mr. Queen has moved up to Willow and is waiting a favorable opportunity to get to work. The water question is still a sore and knotty problem with the individual miners on Willow. At the mouth of Gold Run work is being resumed on the north side of Pine creek where good money was made last year, and we trust the owners may have another prosperous season.
