'/&{ CLAIM. <\ VOL.- 7: ATLIN, B. C,SSATURDAY, .AUGUST 9, 1902.' . NO. 160. THE SUNRISE CO. New Plant Installed on the London Group. Yollovv channel Exposed Gratify ing1.Prospects Some Very Substantial Work Done. THE ATLIN HOSPITAL The Sunrise Co.'s'new plant, on the Lou'dou Group, is taking water M'oni the south ditch, and has an increased pressure ol" 50 feet over their oilier installations, ihe head now being 119 feet. This is,the first hydrauliciug" done on the high rim on the south side of Pine- Creek. Water was turned on last Mo'ii-5 day'aud by Tuesday a face was opened up exposing the "yellow channel as expected. The face shows a depth of between! 15 .to 18. feet of yellow gravel,' and the gravel itself appears to be, at this point, less than 6 feel troui the surface of the' bench. 'From the lay of the gravel the channel was running south-westerly, away from "the present creek, in the direct Ton. of; Stevendyke Gulch and- Spruce 'Creek.- - . - jr. A, A -'- The characteristic points of the gravel are the large - accumulation of round and. oval boulders.the gravel itself being more or less cemented, but \iekling readily to the monitor. Where exposed, it may be mentioned that, this is the lowest point on Pine Creek where the yellow channel has been found, and from general indications it is most probable to be the last appearance -on. .the present channel of Pine Creek. The flume hasbeeh very substan- tially laid,Mil setting it the rim was cut down to a depth of about ro feet in order lo bottom the channel. It runs neaily parallel with the present bed of Pine Creek. It is the i. tentiou of the Company to follow the channel up stream.pining down from above. We congratulate _the Company upon this commencement of serious development woik on their valuable property. Women's Ward now. Completed. Funds Provided by Prosbyterian Ladles of Toronto Furni- ture Required. The new addition.to the Hospital, the women's ward, is now completed.- Il consists of one large ward, a private -ward, bath room and a reception room. Before this addition was erected the'nurses on many different occa- sions'.williiigly gave up their own private dwelling in cases of maternity.;. -'.V X..- X The expense of building this new ward was subscribed by the presbyterian ladies of Toronto, the cost being over one thousand dol- *'* _. * .' - - lars. Furniture is" now-required, and considering thai the hospital has been in existence three years aud that no one', ,whatever his or her circumstances, was turned away, rich or^poor, heathen ar. christian, one aud all get the.sanie . treatment and.attention. . .Too .much cannot be said, in .praise- of the nurses,' whose indefatigable efforts to bring comfort to the sick are to say the least comiueuda.blej it is not asking too much of the residents; of this district to subscribe liberally to the list that is now - being circulated around. Tuesday last, at Mr Boudrcau's residence on Spruce Creek, the cereniony was performed by Father- MacKinnon. While they cannot affect the existence of mineral in the ground if they keep men from going down after it, the result is the same as if the ore were annihilated. Millions of dollars of ore in the ground will never benefit its owner nor the community unless it is taken out, I and the men who are able to go after the ore should be met fairly by the prospector or promoter to the mutual benefit of all.
