Enclosed please find first
of Exchange #103 drawn by Messrs Dickens Campbell & Co
for the sum of One thousand dollars and McDonald
& Co draf [sic] No 5070. for the sum of four Hundred and
ten dollars which please place to my credit & charge
to me_ 714 84 71 39 [714.84 + 71.39] - $786.23. amount due on the Johnson
Matter these goods of Johnsons were not sold as
well as I might have done had I dared to
take time but I put them right through for
fear of any trouble thinking it was better to
hold money than goods your favor of the 28
Nov. came to hand with B/L a/c &c all of which
are satisfactory I have made an arrangement
with the bank of “British Columbia” for advances
to the amount of seventy-five per cent on invoice cost
They have directed their agents Messrs Falkner Bell & Co
to make you such advances when[ever] you require them
no amount over three thousand dollar to be made
on any one shipment This will enable you to buy
most of my goods for cash. I have to pay two per cent
for this accommodation but I know you can always
save me five by buying for cash
You will please buy and ship me one hundred Bbls [barrels] golden gate flour superfine
10-20 cases Jewel & Harrison Lard
10-20 Bbls Billings Hams
10-20 cases P&M Yeast powders
10-20 Half Bbls Dried apple
10-20 Bales Double Crown straw paper
20 firkins Isthmus butter
20 Hf [sic] Bbls pork not over 7.50
5 cases California Cheese
Any cheap goods that you can buy at auction
50 to 100 mats China sugar in bond
Any lot of cheap Tea that you can find in bond
in 1/3 lb pap [sic] 20 to 25¢ buy for 20 to 50 chests-
100 box [sic] candles All these you can get the advance
on from Messrs F. B. &Co I hope you will pick up
some cheap Tobacco. I would like from 5 to 10
bales of Manilla Pap [sic] 18x27. Pap is often sold
at auction and I see it always sells low I
shall want a great many goods both now &
in the spring a lot of spices pepper &C [etc.] and
in fact Most Every thing
