LILLOOET DISTRICT COMING TO THE FRONT Vancouver Civic Market Manager Visits Lillooet and Arranges for an Exhibit to be Sent to that City Lillooet is at last coming into its own, and the many tons of fruit which usually falls to the ground every year and is wasted, i3 to find a market instead. The outcome of Alderman Woodsidc's visit to our district a few days ago has given the Lillooet farmer- and growers the opportunity they have been waiting for for years. Mr. Woodside took to Vancouver so good a report (and some samples of the Lillooet district produce to substantiate that report) that the Alderman of that city became convinced of the possibilities here. It was stated that if the railway rates were low there would be no reason why fruit and vegetables could not be shipped to Vancouver, also that it was only a seven hours journey from Lillooet to Vancouver. The Civic Market Committee of Vancouver, decided to send Market Manager H. A. Edgett to Lillooet and authorized him to interview the officials of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway with the view of obtaining advantageous terms for the ranchers. Mr. Edgett arrived here this week and in an interview with the "Prospector" stated "that he had approached a number of the farmers and growers of this district with regard to sending a representative exhibit of the Lillooet district produce to the Vancouver market, and that the farmers and growers recognizing the opportunity they had waited for for years, heartily responded to the idea, and an exhibit will be shipped to Vancouver this coming week. It is the. intention of Mr. Edgett to place the fruit and produce, sent from here, in the Van- cover market and make a special exhibit of it to the consuming public. There is, on an average, nine thousand visitors and buyers in this market on Wednesdays and Saturdays so it will readily be seen what an advantage this exhibit will be, not only to the farmers and growers, but to the whele community. The perishable goods will of necessity be sold right away, but the less perishable will be held for exhibition as long as is deemed necessary. Mr. Edgett also stated that he had interviewed the Pacific Great Eastern railway officials and that they were more than willing to co-operate with the farmers and growers of this district, and will do all in their power to facilitate the transportation of their por- duce. The Vancouver Civic Committee, with Mr. Edgett as their representative, and Alderman Woodside of Vancouver, have given us an opportunity, and are still working to our mutual interests. It is now the duty of every farmer, grower, and citizen to do their upmost to help forge this district ahead and place it in a position second to _one in the Province as a first-ciass quality producer of foodstuffs. We are convinced that when the Vancouver consumers become aware of the quality of our fruit and produce, they, like their Aldermen, will rise to the occasion, with the ultimate result of a good, steady, demand for the fruits and produce of the district of Lillooet. Church Services Methodist: Sunday School at 11 Evening service 7.80 Pastor-Rev. J. R. Butler "The influence of light and seme of its various manifestations." Everybody cordially invited. No telegraphic news this morning. The war news this week is of a character to exhilerate the most pestimistic, also to strike a bad chill into the heart of the most optfmistic enemy. Dear Sir: On behalf of the Vancouver visitors I wish to thank you for the hospitality extended to us during our all-too-short visit to Lillooet. The fool who playfully rocks the boat Is on the front page no more, He may rank high with the fools afloat But his glory is gone ashore. There's the fool with women, the fool with wine, And the fool who games with strangers, And the joy-ride fool (who does well in his line By combining these ascient dangers. But they're all itill down in the primer class, Mere novices taking a flyer, Compared with the prize-taking criminal ass, The fool in the woods with fire. A few hearts break for the deeds they've done In their pitiful amateur way, But fire slays dozens where they slay one And scourges a state in a day.
