/ THE Vol. 1 No. 30 FRIDAY, JUNE, 7 1912 $2.00 Per Year CONSTRUCTION TO START SOON It is said that work on the long-looked for and much-needed line between Vancouver and Fort George will start sometime about the first of July, at a point near North Vancouver and from the time dirt starts flying the work will be rushed forward as rapidly as possible. The agreement with the government calls for seventy-five miles of road to be constructed the first year, which will bring it to a point somewhere in the neighborhood of the Birkenhead Hatchery. Along the coast between North Vancouver and Newport and up the Squamish valley there are miles of heavy work that will require some time to put in a road bed, but it is announced that large crews will be put on and the work extended as far as possible before the snow flies, which will necessarily mean a signal to cease operations in the Squamish country. There is also heavy rock work along Anderson and Seton lakes and on the Fraser above Lillooet, but as these localities are in the dry belt where there is a minimnm of snow fall work can be pursued all winter and it is said that station work will be in progress in these places all winter. Several survey parties under Mr. John Nelson are in the field at present between North Vancouver and Lillooet making final locations and cross-sectioning and making all preparations for the construction crews to commence operations. DEVELOPMENT WORK AT GOLDEN NEST Carl Wihksne came down from the Golden Nest Group on Cadwallader Creek and reports that everything progressing fine with he and his partners. The Golden Nest Group consists of six claims across the creek from the Lome mine and up to the present time three veins have been opened and there are still two outcroppings to be stripped. The ore taken out shows gold values and some silver and the veins are said to show good width. One tunnel has been driven in 20 feet and the ore has improved with depth. Mr. Wihksne and associates expect to remain in the section indifinitely and are preparing to put in extensive improvements. They expect to install a small sawmill in the near future to get out timbers for the tunnels and. lumber for flumes to bring water onto the property for ground sluicing to open up the various veins. Tjiey have already built a permanent bridge across Cadwalla der creek from the Lome, capable of sustaining pack horses and are putting up substantial cabins. Associated with M r. Wihksne are Messrs. Frank Gennings, John Bovid, Anton Teter and Paul Hikshen. Mr. Bovid will come to Lillooet shortly enroute to New York city, where he goes to interest capital in their proposition. CASE DISMISSED .Mr. Justice Gregory dismissed with costs the action for $25,000 for malicious prosecution brought by Martin Crane against Mark Eagleson of Lillooet. His Lordship considered it unnecessary to prove the ad- missability of certain documents. "I find," he added, "no evidence of malice on the part of the defendant and believe that he acted in good faith and on reasonable ground. The action will therefor be dismissed with costs." TELEPHONE LINE FOR BRIDGE RIVER It is expected that work on the Bridge River Telephone line will be started in the immediate future. The only reason that work has been delayed as long as it has was to allow the road to be completed to such a point that means of transporting material and supplies into that section would be assur- red. Now that the road has reached a point where there is no danger of a telephone crew overtaking the road camps before the road is finished, there will probably be a movement toward starting the line. Already some material has arrived and has been stored at the lake. It is reported there is another shipment enroute, so once the work starts it will be pushed to early completion without delay. MORE TRAILERS AFTER OUTLAWS Ashcroft, June 7.—Messrs Cochrane, Ryder, Ford, Draper and Parker, of Hope, arrived here yesterday and were hurried north by Chief Constable Burr to supplement the already large contingent of detectives now in pursuit of the two Indian outlaws,, Moses Paul and Paul Spitlam, who are lead- the police a wild chase and defying all efforts on the • part of the government to bring them to justice. Mr. Cochrane was for many years associated with the mounted police in the Northwest Territory, and also had the experience of several years service on the police force of the city of Dawson during its wild early days. Latest reports state that the pursuers are gradually closing in on the fugitives in the vicinity of Alkali lake, some fifty miles north from Clinton, the scene of the murder by them of Constable Kindness. Late reports recently in Lillooet are the effect that the Indians are heading for the Fraser river and are expected to strike it somewhere in the vicinity of the Big- Slide, about 26 miles up the river from Lillooet. o Already several outside parties have announced their intentions of bringing in horses to take part in the Dominion Day races and from all indications this year's celebration will be the most interesting held for several years past. A meeting will be held tonight to arrange for the program and daily the subscription list is growing larger, insuring a good time on that date. The Prospector June 7, 1912.
