Across Canada by Auto Thos. W. Wilby of New York, and his assistant, F. E. Haney, driving a Reo ''30*' across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver, passed through town last Saturday afternoon. Mr. Willy did not intend to pay Lillooet a visit, but coming over the Ashcroft road enroute to Lytton did not turn on to Lytton road at the bridge. Mr. Wilby spoke of the British Columbia roads as positively the finest he had traversed since the commencement of his trip. This was in spite of the fact that British Columbia was the youngest province in the Dominion and was in his opinion indicative of the progress, prosperity and enterprise which had ever characterized the West. The distance traveled was 3,900 miles and took from August 27th to October 14. To Build Sidewalks J. K. More of Clinton, road superintendent for this district, accompanied by A. McDonald, M. P. P., w«re Lillooet visitors the first of the week. They left Monday for South Fork to make preparations for the building of a bridge. Considerable work is to be done at Lillooet soon. The building of sidewalks and a government barn will be started as soon as Mr. Moore returns. Hauling Freight Several more loads of material for the Pacific Great Eastern Railway have been hauled from Lytton this week and stored in the new warehouses at this end of Seaton lake. Pkir-Purchase St. Mary's church was the scene of a charming event on Sunday last when the Rev. Archdeacon Pugh united in wedlock Edith M. Purchase of England, and Arthur William Armit Phair of Lillooet. The bride was given away by Mr. William Hayl- more and was attired in a beautiful costume of white silk voile draped with white silk fringe and trimmed with lace and pearls. Her veil which vas of Brussels net, was handsomely wreathed with orange b.o s jms and she carried a sheaf o± white as- tors. The bridesmaids who were the Misses Floss and Dora Manson were tastefully dressed in white mull trimmed with lace and each carried a boquet of pale pink astors. The groom was supported by his brother, Mr. Herbert Lewis Phair. The church was very tastefully decorated for the event. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of Mrs. C. Phair, where the wedding cake was cut and congratulations were received from the many friends of the bride and groom. Immediately afterwards they boarded a gaily decorated car, amid a shower of rice and other customery tokens of good luck, enroute for Lytton and coast points where they will spend their honeymoon, hav- iug the good wishes of the many friends who gathered round to wish them God speed on their journey through life. The grooms gift to the bride was a gold watch and chain and to the bridesmaids, pearl brooches. The Prospector THE PROSPECTOR Permanently camped at LillooetB,C. That tuberculosis is responsible for one-third of the sickness that reduces families to despondency is indicated by a study just completed by the New York Association for Improving the Conditions of the Poor. In a statement sent out the association states that this disease is the cause of over 8 per cent, of the destitute homes in New York City. Poor food, poor ventilation and unsanitary surroundings are no doubt the contributing causes. The Western Crops The Canadian Bank of Commerce, ofter a comprehensive and systematic examination in Western Canada, estimates the wheat yieid at 196,000,000 bushels; oats 224,500,000 bushels; barley, 49,600,000; flax, 12,- 900,000 bushels. The total value of grain crops to the producer is estimated by the bank at $208,000,000. Heard at Lillooet Stranger—I admire a man who says the right thing at the right time. M. Clark Winnipeg, Oct. 17-H. M. Clark, who has been in Winnipeg on several occasions during the past twelve months, representing himself as Dominion organizor for the Canadian Highway Association, has no connection with that body, according to a statement made by W. J. Kerr, president of the Canadian Highway Association. Members have been secured by Mr. Clark in many cities from Halifax to the Pacific coast, by advancing the argument that he was working in the interest of the Canadian Highway Association, although his connection was ceased on January 3, 1912. In the opinion of several who have in the past came in contact with Clark, his interest in the cause of good roads has become an obsession and it was considered advisable to publicity repudiate the self- styled Dominion organizer. Timber Reserves The provincial timber revnue for the month of September amounted to $256,681.93. There were 889 licences issued west of the Cascades and 434 east of that range. Into the fire protection fund there was paid $77,002. The revenue from coal licences was $6,- 850 and there were fifty-one coal prospecting licences issued.
