Commissioner of B.C, or other Prn-
viTlal legislative*.
The plan was adopted that future
demands of Rod and Gun Clubs In
B.C. will therefore be concisely presented as affectinir the whole of the
Province, and that the Government
will have a cleerer nlrture of the
attitudes and cont^mt'ons nf evert
Rod and Gun Club In B.C. when
drafting future resolutions.
Introduction of this Innovation ln
the sportsmen's constitution was
made bv Mr. McEwen whose Idea
was to eliminate anlmosttv between
Rod and Gun Clubs over the adaption of resolutions. Each resolution from the verlous clubs will now
be sent to the Provinclsl FirretBrv
and from there distributed amonc
everv club In BC. so that all w'-l
be sble to voice an onfnlon. Bv
this method the Game Commlsslpn
will know exactly the pros and enns
of the resolution before they take
an* action,
Ted Black, President of the New
Westminster and Lower Mainland
Zone, was pretent to leern the view
of the Interior Aaaoclatlon In the
formation of a Provincial bodv to
correlate the work of Rod and Gun
Clubs His Idea was the formation
of a Provincial or*aniia_-lon that
could some day affiliate with the
sportsmen's associations of the State
of Washington. —The Vernon News.

, Canadian Powdered Milk
for Greek Children
Powdered milk, almost all of lt supplied by the Greek War Relief Fund
tn Canada, through the good offices of
the Canadian Red Cross Society, Is
keeping alive almost 340,000 children
and babies in Nazi-occupied Greece,
according to a report from the International Committee of the Red Cross,
Geneva, Switzerland.
Reporting on conditions ln Greece
ln 1943, international headquarters of
the Red Cross says: "Most of the milk
•ent to Greece is distributed, sa far as
Athens and the Piraeus is concerned,
in 480 canteens, where about 100,000
children of more than seven years of
•ge receive proper food and medical
attention, and in 130 milk centres feeding 75,000 children of less than seven
years of age. So far as the Greek provinces are concerned, more than 133,000
children and 31,000 babies were, In
June last, being aided through canteens and milk centres set up in.more
t _____ 150 localities."
The Red Cross reports that, since
Fall of 1942, practically all powdered
milk sent to Greece has come from
i Canada. That is the powdered milk
bought by the Greek War Relief Fund
With money generously subscribed by
"Canadians, and purchased through the
Canadian Red Cross. Up to date, the
Fund has shipped 205,000 pounds of
powdered milk to Greece. The Prime
Minister of Greece has recently expressed the thanks of all Greeks for
this aid from Canada.
The Japanese and Wartime
Voting
From s purely theoretlcsl viewpoint
there is nothing wrong with the C.C.F.
trgument backed by eight Liberal and
one Progressive Conservative member
of the Senate, that votes should be giv
m to Japanese citizens of Canada. In
theory, citizenship should carry with lt
full rights. Limited citizenship, in the-
«_ry, is indefensible.
But the practical viewpoint at a
■fcne when we are at war with Japan,
Jt a time when the militarists in Japan
(pro-id, if they could, reduce Canada to
The ilavery which they are imposing
JpB Korea and Manchuria and the countries they have conquered since Pearl
llarbor, brings us up against a condl-
#on to which theory must give way.
Under the Dominion Elections Act,
which Is now being amended, we will
place tn power s parliament and government which still pursue the war to
final victory against Japan.
To uy that all Japanese citizens ot
Canada are more friendly to the cause
of the homeland of their fathers, or
thai' own'fatherland if they are naturalized Canadians rather than Canadians by birth, than to Canada would
bot be true, but to say that the mass ol
^Japanese who are citizens of Canada
tnt wttih or naturalization would ard-
itly support an all-out war for the de-
gtruction of Japan's misused power
(would be absurd. It wold be a denial of
human nature and it would be palpably
ttm*.
There are constituencies In Csnsds
ftl which the balance of voting power
would rest with Japanese if they were
permitted to vote In the forthcoming
Wartime election. Those constituencies
Mould elect to Parliament men whose
political future could depend upon
Jewing the Japanese in their constlt-
•P-Ciee.
Some of the practical political fea-
tnret of the situation are already evi-
MDt C.C F support of the franchise
|or Japanese has been followed by the
warm approval by the newspaper or-
of the Japanese Nisei nf the C.C.F
tn Saskatchewan.
If the Japanese return to Vancou-
***t they would represent an Import-
■Bt and ln some rases dominating factor in the election of candidates in some
nnatltuencies, notably that of Van-
Mover East, represented by Angus
l_U.l-.nes, the leading exponent of the
CT. party policy of extending the
franchise, to Japaneee. No one would
Ihat Mr. Maclnnes has been
fluenced by this consideration—he is
entitled to full cradit for complete honesty In hit advocacy of tha theory of
full voting rlghti for all Csnadian citizens irrespective ot race—but the fact
as to Japanese voting power must be
faced.
Kootenay Weat la another example.
The number ot Japaneie now temporarily resident ln thli riding Is large.
Fourteen hundred are ln areas adjacent to Lethbridge. Many a candidate
li elected with far leu majority.
Many hundredi are ln camp near
Hope, in Britiah Columbia.
Whatever we may think of the
proposition of votea for Japanese in
peacetime—whether we are then ta
permit other practical considerations
to override the attractive theory of
equality for all in the franchise or not
—to permit potential enemies to use
mass voting power against our cause
in the war would be even more stupid
than the appeasement policies which
led the Allies to the disgrace of Munich.
