Victoria. — A Pars-Asiatic movement tending to unite all Asiatic countries has been formed in Japan, according to the advices brought by the Sado Maru. The promoters are Japan natior.al leaders and other politicians. In their manifesto they speak of the necessity of Asiatics cessing to regard each other with jealousy, or to remain indolent and the desirability of Asian countries to unite to make Asia supreme. A society known as the 'Asia Righteous Society" has been formed and branches will be established in China, Siam, India. Persia, Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries. High Voltage Saved Him Tacoma. — B. N. Merry, a lineman of the Pacific Coast Power Company, had a narrow escape from death, last night, when he short-circuited COOO volts of electricity through his body while working on a broken switch at Puyulapp. Merry escaped death because of the high voltage, and was fortunate in that he escaped short - circuiting a 22,000 line which was attached to an adjoining switch. Merry is in a rather serious condition although the physicians say he will recover. After the current had passed through his body he was in some way thrown from the switch, and the connection was broken by a trick of the electricity itself. He then crawled into the street from the transformer, where he had been working alone. His hands and feet were slightly burned. Price of Beef Raising Vancouver. — Mr. P. Burns, head of the cattle and meat firm of P. Burns & Company, announced to-day on his arrival from the east that, on account of the hard winter in Alberta and the consequent rise in the price of hay and other fodder, the price of beef would make a material advance in the near future. Pork and mutton will also move up the scale, but not to such a great extent as beef. Los Angeles.--Willi the coas* from the Mexican line to Mot- terety guarded more closely th;ui ever before, the U.
