ANGUS MeMII.UN'N. SepLmbe, mh., ign, Dec,4. w 'ITH this issue The Herald bids farewell to the Year of Our Lord one thousand, nine hundred and eleven. it has been significant in many ways in Canada's history. Great changes have come about, whought by the might of lhe people's will. Internationally it has been a year of progress towards that ultimate hope of the nations—peace on earth. Yet there have been massacres in China, and battle murder and sudden death in Turkey, but from afar we regard these tragerdies of modern barbarism as the blood tracks of the beast upon the white highways leading to the future emancipation of such turbulent countries. The ^eat war dogs of Europe have snarled in anger, as, with bared fangs and flensing claws they they wrangled over some bone of contention, but diplomacy, that subtle appeasing high art of word-usage in place of bloodshed, has triumphed, and the sky is clear of war clouds once again. Here, in Soutii Fort George, the pulsating hed heart set in tint midst of an awakening wilderness, the course of human events have claimed for us a future of prosperity. There will arise here a great city. Its inception hals begun'in the work of the pioneers, and the personnel now comprises live and up to date business men with t!«) pioneers. A combination well calculated to further the growth of the future city. We wish our many readers a happy and prosperous New Year. CASSIAR I,AND DISTHICT. Of the Pence Hiver I, uui Distrct. At \ the same time he thought that Mr. Whealler had done rightly j in applying for the injunction j as it would enable him to show the Commission that he lad taken steps i.o stop tht! sale. Mr. Alexander replied that Mr. Kelly's sole contention was that the Grand Trunk Pacific Development Co. had a station on its own townsite and he had not .not. The Grand Trunk Pacific itself had put on the market the townsite of Ellison, but had subsequently moved the townsiu. to South Hazelton. The transfer, said council, had been -sanctioned by tl' s railway commission. This, Mr. Justice Morrison remarked, put a wholly different complexion on the whole matter. I Mr. W. J. Sanders stated that it was untrue that he had said hat he preferred Ellison to South Hazelton. j Mr. .Justice Morrison in sum-! ming the matter up said that, the mat.er was too remote for him to take action upon it.
