Devons, Herefords, and Angus, all of which are used as dairy animals, and of which excellent beef was made. What was desired in the dual purpose cow was not only that she jive plenty of good, rich milk, aid fatten easily, but that would produce a calf that will make u good ground-work for flesh. The records of some c f these dual herds were extraordir.aiy, in many cases surpassing that of strictly dairy breeds. He gave a number of figures not only of the amount produced by the English herds, but the result of tests they lad made at Ottawa. All that was said went to show that it was possible to have a cow largely of the beef type and still that would give an immense quantity of milk. In t'-ie course of his remarks Mr. Gris- dale said that it took more to keep t ie dual purpose cow, and that less butter in proportion was made from the milk, but, on the other hand, the calf of a strictly dairy cow was only worth 50 cents when dropped, whereas the calf of a strictly dairy cow was nearly large cities, where exclusive dairying could be carried 0:1 profitably, and the place of the dual purpose cow was for farmers who wanted to keep a good sized herd that was easy to raise and did not require the strict attention that was necessary to dairy cattle. RBAD IT THROUGH. Would it not be a good idea to amend tbe statutes so they will satisfy everyone in the Delta municipality. Having happened in a small Virginia town in the winter of 1902, it is a story very much ofthe present. Up to a short time ago Mrs. John K. He distinguished betwten the " general purpose " and dual purpose cow By the latter term he understood one that would give a large flow of good milk, and which, while she was very thin in tha shoulders during the lacteal period, as soon as she ceased to give milk would begin to put on not fat, but flesh, and would readily become fit for tke butcher. Tbe points of similarity between the beef and dairy cow were enumerated.
