The reason for my telegraphic exchanges in connection with the April audit was, the Annual Meeting of the Company is held on the first Wednesday in May of every year, therefore, these reports are required to reach me earlier than usual. Please keep this in mind next year as cut-off will have to be made and report mailed so as to reach my office at least two days previous to dead line. Dear Sir: Referring to your letter of the 26th instant, File 1-179604-AP. W. do not appear to have any instructions on file authorizing Pursers to remit expense bills to this office. However, it has been the practice for a great number of years to accept small expense bills covering shipments between intermediate points for firms who have a transportation credit with the Railway Company. This system was put into effect to relieve the Pursers of collecting the amounts themselves, as in the majority of eases the arrival and departure of their ships did not permit them to contact the firms direct. Blackburn, Auditor of Agenciee, Montreal, Q>ue, Bear Sir.t Local Treasurer, Vancouver. Your letter of March 10th File S. The practice of making the cut~off on either a Wednesday or a Saturday is one that has been followed for many years by my predecessors and,of course,! have,in turn, done likewise. There ia not anything in the files here by way of instruction and I can only, therefore, conclude it has come about through a verbal conversation at some time.I cannot imagine the course being adopted otherwise« I do not,I might say,at the moment see any necessity for confining the audit cut-off to a Wednesday or a %turday. It can,I think,be Just as conveniently made on any other day we may at the time decide best. We make actual count of the cash on hand daily as it is. I had in mind making the cut-off this month on Wednesday March 24th because of the Bank holidays March 26th and 29th however,we can just as easily make it Tuesday March 30th and still get the returns into you on time. We neldom meet with any undue delay in reaching a balance. If you prefer the latter date as the one most advisable kindly wire me accordingly.
