51 Vic. Petition—Sumas Dyke Repeal (against). 303 PETITION. To the Honourable Mr. Speaker and Members of the House of Legislature. The humble petition of the undersigned land-owners of Matsqui, respectfully sheweth:— That notice has been given of a Bill to be brought before the Honourable House for the repeal of the Sumas Dyking Act of 1878, and of the amendment thereto of 1883. That your petitioners have purchased land with the expectation of having the present dyke repaired under the provisions of the said Acts. That they are given to understand that arrangements have been made for resuming work upon the present dyke, at an early date. That they fear that the repeal of the said Acts may have the effect of staying the work of repairing the dyke. That they do therefore, with all due respect, protest against the repeal of the said Acts, and pray that the Honourable Mr. Speaker and Members of the House of Legislature do not consent to allow the said Acts to be repealed during this present Session. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, &c. C. J. Sim, James Baiss, H. P. O'Farrell, L. S. Appleby, William S. Maher, R. E. Purver, C. T. Purver, R. A. Purver, Wm. Andean, Henry S.
