Mr. Terence Batiigan, author of "The Winslow Boy", left New York for England a little
over a week ago, having had the satisfaction of seeing his two short plays, "The Browning
Version" and "A Harlequinade", a current success on Broadway, Maurice Evans and Edna
Best have the leads. While "The Browning Version" ■ is a serious offering about a defeated
English school master. "A Harliqutaade" is a mere trifle, a Mi of theatre kidding, Mr,
Battigan also authored "O Mistress Mine", a 1946 hit with the twits.

on Broadway. Only four other non-comedies have exceeded this record—"Tobacco Road (3,182),
"Angel Street" (1,295). "Anna Lucasta" (957). "White Cargo" (864); but Arthur Miller's
"Death of a Salesman" which is well past its 300th showing is headed in that direction too.

A search is being made for a seven-year old lad to carry a tricky role in Carson McCuI-
ler's dramatization of the novel "The Member of the Wedding". "The author of the book.
Mrs. Robert Whitehead, is off for the South to look for the tight boy herself. He has to be
a plaintive, curious seven year-old child — 'someone who will melt your heart' to quote
director Harold Cluman.
