MAISON LAWRENCE:
Exclusive Hairstylists for the Frederic Wood Theatre THE FREDERIC WOOD THEATRE FOUNDATION
Believing that theatre has an important place in the cultural life of a university
and of a nation, and wishing to encourage the future development of the Frederic
Wood Theatre Programme, the University, in 1962, established the Frederic Wood
Theatre Foundation, a permanent endowment, the annual income from which will
be devoted to enhancing the artistic merit of the theatre's productions.
The Frederic Wood Theatre is deeply grateful to all those who have contributed to
the Foundation. Its objective is an ambitious one, $100,000.00, and it will probably be- two or three years before it is realized. But gifts from the University, from
friends of the University, from patrons of the old "Freddy Wood", from the Alumni
Association and from Players' Club Alumni have already brought it to $41,200.00.
Many of those who generously contributed to the Foundation in response to the first
appeal expressed a desire to make further contributions in succeeding years. AS
IT ENTERS ITS 1963-1964 SEASON THE FREDERIC WOOD THEATRE WOULD
LIKE TO APPEAL ONCE AGAIN TO OLD AND TO NEW FRIENDS, HOPING
THEY WILL WISH TO HELP BUILD THE FOUNDATION TO ITS OBJECTIVE.
If they would like to contribute, cheques should be made payable to the University
of British Columbia (Frederic Wood Theatre Foundation) and mailed to the Department of Theatre at the University. All donations are deductible for income tax
purposes. They will be greatly appreciated.

PRELUDE TO THEATRE
An Extension Department lecture series based upon the plays
which are to be presented in the Frederic Wood Theatre during
the 1963-1964 season, commencing September 24th. TO JOHN MASON BROWN
The University of British Columbia and the Community Arts Council of Vancouver,
who together have sponsored the visit to the campus of the distinguished American
drama critic, John Mason Brown, wish to record their very great pleasure in his
consent to contribute to the opening ceremonies of the new Frederic Wood Theatre.
As guest speaker Mr. Brown delivered the inaugural lecture on "The Place of
Theatre in the World To-day" on Thursday, September 19, at noon in the University
Auditorium, to an audience of students and interested members of the public.
TO "FREDDY WOOD" AUDIENCES
Actors and audiences TOGETHER create the magic of theatre. By their loyal support the audiences of the old "Freddy Wood" have helped to make possible the
building of a beautiful, modern theatre as part of the University's Centre for the
Fine Arts. To them the new Frederic Wood Theatre says a heart-felt "THANK
YOU" and earnestly invites their partnership in its future endeavours.
TO.THOSE WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FIRST PRODUCTION
IN THE NEW THEATRE
The opening of a first production in a new theatre involves the cooperation of
many people, and the Frederic Wood Theatre wishes to express its warm appreciation of the generous assistance it has received.
