obtained a job as a Library Assistant in the Special Collections Division for a year. He
obtained his BLS at UBC, and was appointed as a reference librarian in the Sedgewick
Library in May, 1966. In July, 1968 he became Assistant Head of Sedgewick, and in March
1972, he became Head of the Humanities Division. After the amalgamation of Humanities
and Social Sciences, he became Head of the combined division in May 1984. In August,
1987 he relinquished his administrative responsibilities to become Colbeck Librarian in the
Special Collections Division.
Bill Watson

McGill University. His first position was as Librarian of the Institute of Islamic Studies at
McGill, and as Assistant Professor. In 1965, he came to UBC as Assistant University
Librarian for Technical Services, and in 1969 he left to become University Librarian at the
University of Waterloo. In 1973, he returned to UBC as Assistant University Librarian for
Physical Planning and Development. In 1982, he became Assistant University Librarian
for Public Services (Central Libraries). From July, 1989 to August, 1990 he was appointed
Acting University Librarian.
