Wednesday, M~rch 9th, 1932
An adjourned meeting of the Senate of The University of British Columbia was held on Wednesday, March 9th,
1932, at 8:00 p.m., in the Board Room.
Present: President L. S. Klinck (in the Chair), Dean
F. M. Clement, Dean R. W. Brock, Dean D. Buchanan, Mr.
E. A. Lloyd, Dr. G. G. Moe, Mr. J. M. Turnbull, Mr. H. F.
Angus, Dr. A. H. Hutchinson, Mr. J. N. Harvey, Dr. Frank
P. Patterson, Mr. G. W. Clark, Rev. Dr. W. H. Vance, Dr.
G. G. Sedgewick, Mr. Sherwood Lett, Mr. H. T. Logan, Mr.
A. E. Lord, Dr. Evlyn F. Farris, Miss A. B. Jamieson, Dr.
C. Killam, Mr. Sydney Anderson, Dr. W. B. Burnett, The
Most Rev. A. U. dePencier and Mr. Lyle A. Atkinson.
A letter of regret at her inability to attend the
meeting was received from Mrs. Beatrice Wood.

Dr. Buchanan ) That the letter be received and
filed.

The resignation of the Right Reverend A. H. Sovereign,
Bishop of Yukon, as a member of the Senate, was received.

Dr.   Killam   )    That   Senate   express   to   Bishop
Sovereign   its   appreciation   of   his
services   to   the   University  as   a
member   of   Senate.

Mr.   Clark   )   That  Mr.   Gordon W.   Scott  be   nominated
to   fill   the   vacancy   created  by   the
resignation   of   Bishop   Sovereign.
Dr. Sedgewick)
Dr. Patterson) That nominations close.

The motion that Mr. Scott be appointed was put to
vote and carried. 202.
Wednesday, March 9th, 1932.
From the Board of Governors
A letter was read stating that the report adopted by
Senate with reference to the Allocation of University Funds
had been referred to the President.
A letter was received approving the acceptance of the
Isaac Bunting Botany Bursary as recommended by the Senate
at its meeting on February 17th, 1932.
Recommendation of Faculty Committee on Prizes and Scholarships re Scholarship awarded to Mi33 Eleanor Ruth Cole_s
That in accordance with the request of Miss
Eleanor Ruth Coles, the Khaki University and
Y. M. C. A. Memorial Fund Scholarship won by
her brother, the late Mr. A. E. Coles, and,
on her brother's death, assigned to Miss Coles
by the Board of Governors, in the event of her
attending the University, be paid to her during the Summer Session of 1932, if she carries
out her expressed intention of registering for
courses during that session.

Board   of  Governors   and   the   Senate 203.

Dr. Killam) That the Committee be empowered to
add to their numbers; that the Committee consider the whole question
of the functions of the Co-ordinating Committee and report to Senate.

Report of the Committee on Honorary Degrees
The Committee recommends to Senate that the
honorary degree of Doctor of Laws be conferred at Congregation in May, upon the
following:
The Honourable Henry Herbert Stevens
Professor George Edward Robinson
Dr. Edward Burness Paul.
Dean   Brock)
Dr.   Farris)    That   this   recommendation  be   received
and  adopted.

A letter was received from the Secretary of the
Board of Examiners, Victoria, stating that beginning
June, 1933, pass standing for Senior Matriculation
would be as follows:
(a) Fifty per cent (50$) or more in each
subject, or,
(b) Sixty per cent (60$) on the total, with
a minimum of forty per cent (40$) in each
paper, provided the complete Senior
Matriculation Examination is taken at one
s itting.
