Tuesday, M"rch 29th, 1932
A joint meeting of the Board of Governors and the
Senate of The University of British Columbia was held on
Tuesday, March 29th, 1932, at 8:00 p.m., in the Board
and Senate Room.

W. H. Malkin, Mr. Justice Murphy, Mr. R. L. Reid and
Mrs. Maude M. Welsh.
Senate:  The Chancellor, Dr. R. E. McKechnie;
President L. S. Klinck, Dean F. M. Clement, Dean R. W.
Brock, Dean D. Buchanan, Mr. E. A. Lloyd, Dr. G. G. Moe,

The Secretary of Senate read the call of the meeting!
"To discuss plans and proposals for the coming
year and any other questions."
The Chancellor stated that as there was no agenda,
the meeting was open for discussion.
Dr. Burnett expressed the appreciation of the Senate
for the very evident desire on the part of the Board of
Governors for the utmost cooperation between the two
bodies.  He cited the misunderstanding in regard to
clauses 1 and 2 of the Senate's recommendations of
February 24th and referred to the resolution of Senate of 210.
Tuesday, March 29th, 1932.
March 16th in which Senate interpreted recommendation
#2 to mean that there should be two Faculties and that
the Faculty of Agriculture should be merged as a Department of Agriculture under the Faculty of Applied Science.
Dr. Brown, who at the meeting of Senate had moved
for a joint meeting with the Board, said that he would
like to have discussed:
The claim that information was withheld by the
Board from the Senate.
Agreement entered into re gift herd of Ayrshire cattle.
The expenditure on Agricultural Economics.
The expenditure for stair treads in the Library.
It was suggested by Mr. Malkin that these matters
be considered seriatim.
The Chancellor stated that if there was no objection,
this order would be followed but declared that while
these matters were open for discussion It would not be in
order to make any decisions at this joint meeting.
Pis-establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and its
merger as a Department under Applied Science.
A lengthy discussion, pro and con, ensued.  At the
request of Senate, Dean Brock read the statement he had
submitted to the Special Committee of Senate in reference
to a Department of Agriculture under the Faculty of
Applied Science. 211.

Dr. Farris ) That we proceed to discuss the
seoond item.
Information withheld by  the   Board   from  the   Senate
A short discussion on this matter took place.
The   remaining  items   on  the   order  agreed  upon were
not   considered.

Mr. Reid ) That we adjourn and that Senate
express its appreciation to the
Board of Governors for so
willingly granting the request
for a joint meeting.
