January 29, 1947.
A special meeting of the Senate of the University of
British Columbia was held on Wednesday, January 29th, 1947,
at 8:00 p.m., in the Board and Senate Room to consider further the question of the affiliation of a Roman Catholic Arts
College with the University of British Columbia.
Present:  President N.A.M. MacKenzie (in the Chair),
Dean D. Buchanan, Dean J. N. Finlayson, Dean F. M. Clement,
Dean G. F. Curtis, Dr. 0. J. Todd, Mr. W. H. Gage, Dr. H.J.
MacLeod, Mr. F. A. Forward, Dr. J. C. Berry, Dr. G. H. Harris,
Mr. F. Read, Mr. H. w. MacCorkindale, Mr. F. J. Burd, Major
H. C. ?Iolines, Mr. A. R. Lord, Mr. W. R. McDougall, Dr. J.M.
Ewing, Dr. J. G. Brown, Dr. H.R. Trumpour, Mrs. K.M.Beckett,
Mr. K.P. Caple, Mrs. Sally Murphy Creighton, Dr. Sherwood
Lett, nx.  A. E. Lord, Dean M. Dorothy Mawdsley, Miss
Florence S. Mulloy, Dr. W. N. Sage, Dr. A.B. Schinbein, Dr.
F. A. Turnbull, Dr. J. F. Walker and Dr. H. V. Warren.
An expression of regret for his inability to be
present was received from Dr. C. H. Wright.
The President welcomed Major H. Cuthbert Holmes to
Senate,  itajor Holmes was appointed by the Lieutenant-
Governor-in-Council to fill out the unexpired term of the
late Mr. J. w. Spencer.
The Chairman reviewed the steps already taken by
Senate in considering the question of the affiliation of a
Roman Catholic Arts College and in this connection read an
article which had appeared in an issue of the "Pacific
Tribune".  Letters expressing their opinions were read from
several members of the Alumni and the Alumni Association
and a resolution was presented from the Victoria Branch of
the Alumni Association disapproving the establishment of
any sectarian Arts College in affiliation with the University. 1286
January 29, 1947.
After lengthy discussion about the general principle
of affiliation and the position of religious denominations
seeking affiliation for other than a theological college,

policy respecting affiliated
colleges and courses.
The Secretary read a letter  from the  B.C.   Teachers'
Federation stating that Miss Florence S.  Mulloy had been
re-elected as the representative of this organization on
