Wednesday, August 14th, 1935
A special meeting of the Senate of The University of
British Columbia was held on Wednesday, August 14th, 1935,
at 8:00 p.m., in the Board and Senate Room.
Present: President L. S. Klinck (in the Chair); Dean
F. M. Clement, Dean D. Buchanan, Acting Dean J. M. Turnbull,
Miss M. L. Bollert, Miss Isobel Harvey, His Honour F. W.
Howay, Mr. P. A. Wilkin, Dr. A. H. Hutchinson, Mr. Sherwood
Lett, Mr. H. T. Logan, His Honour Judge J. D. Swanson, Dr.
J. Roy Sanderson, Mr. J. C. Oliver, Mr. Sydney Anderson,
Miss A. B. Jamieson, Mr. P. A. Boving, Mr. E. A. Lloyd,
Mr. H. N. MacCorkindale, Mr. A. E. Lord, Rev. Dr. J. G.
Brown, Mr. P. H. Elliott and Dr. G. G. Sedgewick.
The Secretary read the call of the meeting:
"Pursuant to the University Act, to deal
with the matter of the election to the
Board of Governors of three members of
the Senate."
The President referred to the great loss which the
University had sustained in the passing of Principal W. H.
Vance and Dean R. W. Brock.   Reference also was made to
the life and influence of Mrs. Brock.   At the conclusion
of the President's remarks, the members of Senate paid
Bilent tribute to the memory of their associates and
Mrs. Brock.
Committees were appointed to draft letters to be sent
by the Secretary to Mrs. Vanoe and to the members of the
Brock family,-

Expressions of regret at their inability to attend
the meeting were received from Dr. H. F. 6. Letson, Dr. C.
Killam, Mr. J. N. Harvey, Mr. H. F. Angus, Major H. C.
Holmes and Dr. G. G. Moe.
After a general discussion as to procedure, the
Secretary was asked to read the sections of the University
Act with regard to the election of representatives of
Senate to the Board of Governors and in reference to
members who were eligible for election.

Mr. Lord     ) That we proceed, at this time, to
elect the representatives of Senate
to the Board of Governors; and that
this be done by ballot.
In amendment:
Dr. Brown)
Mr. Lloyd) That the Secretary of Senate be instructed to prepare a ballot and that it be
forwarded to all members of Senate.
Amendment lost
Original motion put to vote, and carried.
Nominations were received verbally:
Mr. Sherwood Lett nominated by Mr. J. C. Oliver
Dr. Evlyn F. Farris nominated by Miss A. B. Jamieson
Miss A. B. Jamieson nominated by Mr. H. N.
Dr. J. G. Brown nominated by Mr. P. A. Boving
(At the request of Dr. Brown his nomination
was withdrawn.)

Mr. Lord     ) That the Chair appoint scrutineers,
Mr. MacCorkindale and Mr. Logan were appointed
to act as scrutineers.
Dr. Brown)
Mr. Lord ) That a majority vote be necessary.
On the report of the scrutineers the following were
declared elected as representatives of Senate on the Board
of Governors:
Dr. Evlyn F. Farris
Miss A. B. Jamieson
Mr. Sherwood Lett.
Mr. Boving )
Judge Howay) That we adjourn.
