Friday, April 9th, 1926
A special meeting of the Senate of The University
of British Columbia was held on Friday, April 9th, 1926,
at 8:00 P.M., in the Board Room.
Present:  The President (in the Chair), Dean R. W.
Brock, Dean H. T. J. Coleman, Mr. H. M. King, Mr. H. R.
Christie, Dr. R. H. Clark, Dr. M. Y. Williams, Mr. G. A.
Fergusson, Dr. E. B. Paul, Rev. J. G. Brown, Dr. C.
Killam, Judge J. D. Swanson, Mr. A. E. Lord, Mr. Sherwood
Lett, Mr. J. M. Turnbull, Mr. J. S. Gordon, and Hr. G. E.
Robinson*
The Secretary read the call of the meeting.
Communications were received from Rev. Dr. W. H.
Smith, Dr. D. Buohanan and Mr. A. F. Barss regretting
their inability to be present; Judge Lampman * s regrets
were conveyed through Dr. Paul.

Mr. Fergusson ) That the communications be filed.

Recommendation  from,  the   Faculty  of Arts  and  Scienoe.
"That   we   recommend   to   the   Senate   and   the   Board
of  Governors   that   the   Teacher  Training   Course
at  present  attached   to   the   Department   of
Philosophy,   be   constituted a  Department   of
Education   in   the   Faoulty  of  Arts  and  Science.

Mr.   Gordon     )   That   Senate   adopt   the   resolution  and
that   the   seal   of   the  University  be
placed  upon   the   resolution.

9 62  Proposal to amend the University Act.
The President stated that a resolution had been
passed at a meeting of the Board of Governors appointing
a committee to suggest amendments to the University Act,

and that it was the wish of the Board of Governors that
this matter be referred to the Senate and the Faculties
for   suggestions.

Dr. Williams )
That the matter of amending the
Act, in regard to the disciplinary
powers of the Faculties, be taken
up by the President with the
University solicitors and that the
proposed amendments be submitted
to the Senate at a later sitting
of the Senate.
In amendment:
Mr. Lett)
Hr. Lord) That a committee of three be appointed
by the Chair to act with the committee
of the Board of Governors and of the
Faculties to determine what amendments,
if any, are advisable to the University
Act.
With the consent of his seconder, Judge Swanson
withdrew his motion.
Mr.    Lett's   motion  was   put   to   vote   and   carried.
