Monday, April 24th, 1922.
676 A special meeting of the Senate of the University of British
Columbia was held on Monday, April 24th, 1922, at 8 p.m., in the Board
Room at the University offices.
Present: The President, the Chancellor, Dean Clement, Dean
Brock, Dean Coleman, Mr. P. A. Boving, Mr. Wilfrid Sadler, Dr. E. H.
Archibald, Mr. L. W. Gill, Dr. D. Buchanan, Mr. L. F. Robertson, Mr.
D. M. Robinson, Mr. G. A. Fergusson, Mr. W. P. Argue, Dr. G. G. Sedgewick,
Miss ki  B. Jamieson, Mr. Cecil Killam, Mr. J. S. Gordon, Magistrate
H. C. Shaw, Dr. W. B. Burnett, Mr. J. M. Turnbull, Mr. G. E. Robinson,
Rev. A. H. Sovereign, Judge J. D. Swanson.
The Secretary read the call of the meeting, as follows:-
A special meeting of the Senate of the University of
British Columbia will be held on Monday, April 24th,
1922, at 8 p.m. in the Board lioom.
To consider and deal with the whole question of
University fees.
Dean Coleman     )
Mr. G. E. Robinson)  That Mr. Justice Murphy and Dr. Scott
be requested to sit with us to-night.
A letter from Judge Howay stated that it would be impossible
for him to attend the meeting as he was going east and expected to be
away for some time. It was ordered that the letter be filed.
677 The President reouested that a Chairman pro tern be appointed
as he had a statement to make to Senate.

Mr. Boving ) That Judge Shaw be as;ked to take the Chair.
678 The President submitted a report of his interview with the
Hon. the Minister of Education at Victoria on March 29th and 30th, 1922,
"       in reference to the financial situation and the general policy of the (280)
Monday, April 24th, 1922.
University, and stated that he had been informed that there was no
prospect of any increase In the Government Grant.
The President cave a statement also of the various plans that
had been suggested and considered to meet the present difficulties.
Mr. Justice Murphy, on behalf of the Board of Governors, set
forth some of the problems which the Board has to face because of the
fact that no increase was made in the legislative appropriation for

Mr. Sovereign) That the Senate recommends to the Board
of Governors that the fees for the ensuing
academic year be the same as for the past
The President took the Chair.
The motion was nut and carried.

Mr. Gordon) That we adjourn.
