Wednesday, December 30th, 1936
A special meeting of the Senate of The University of
British Columbia was held on Wednesday, December 30th,
1936, at 8:00 p.m., in the Board and Senate Room.
Present: President L. S. Klinck (in the Chair),
Dean F. M. Clement, Dean J. N. Finlayson, Dean D. Buchanan,
Dr. Blythe Eagles, Dr. D. G. Laird, Dr. M. Y. Williams,
Mr. A. H. Finlay, Mr. H. F. Angus, Mr. Ira Dilworth,
Mr. J. N. Harvey, Mr. A. R. Lord, Rev. Dr. J. G. Brown,
Rev. Dr. H. R. Trumpour, Dr. G. G. Sedgewick, Mr.
Sherwood Lett, Mi3s A. B. Jamieson, Mr. P. A. Boving,
Dr. Evlyn F. Farris, Miss Isobel Harvey and Mr. Arnold A.
Webster.
Expressions of regret at their inability to attend
the meeting were received from Dr. J. Roy Sanderson, Mr.
John C. Oliver and Mr. H. N. MacCorkindale.

Award of the University Scholarship in Nursing and
Health
Dean Finlayson)
Mr. Dilworth  ) That the University Scholarship
in Nursing and Health be awarded
to Edith Marie Walters.

From the Faculties
Reports in reference to Christmas Examinations
Faculty of Arts and Science
Man Buchanan presented a report in reference to the
Christmas examination results for the First and Second
Years in Arts and Science.  The report included,-
(a) A summary of the results.
(b) A recommendation that certain students have
their University courses reduced to nine units.
(c) A recommendation that certain students whose
work was unsatisfactory be required to discontinue attendance at the University for the
remainder of the session.
The report was considered section by section and
adopted.

Wednesday, December 30th, 1936
Faculty of Applied Science
Dean Finlayson presented a report in reference to the
Christmas examination results in Applied Science, including Nursing.  The report included,-
(a) A summary of the results.
(b) Recommendations,-
i.  That certain students in Second Year
Applied Science, who had failed, be allowed
to continue; that certain students in
Second Year Applied Science be required to
repeat the year (withdraw at Christmas);
that certain students in Second Year
Applied Science be required to withdraw
from the Faculty (repeaters); that
certain students in Second Year Nursing,
who had failed, be allowed to continue.
ii.  That certain students in Third Year
Applied Science be required to repeat the
Third Year; and that certain students in
Third Year Applied Science be required to
withdraw from the Faculty (repeaters).
iii. That a certain student in the Diploma
Course in Nursing and Health be asked to
withdraw from the course.
The report was considered section by section and
adopted.
Faculty of Agriculture
Dean Clement presented a summary of the Christmas
examination results in the Faculty of Agriculture.  No
students were asked to withdraw.  (Report presented for
informati on.)
Dean Buchanan)
Mr. Dilworth ) That the Faculties be empowered to
make any adjustments which may be
necessary.

Wednesday, December 30th, 1936
From the Board of Governors
Courses for the Summer Session of 1937  -  approved.
The Chairman extended to the members of Senate his
be3t wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Mr. J. N. Harvey, on behalf of the Senate, extended
to the President and Mrs. Klinck best wishes for the New
Year and expressed the hope that Mrs. Klinck'a health
would improve.  The President, on behalf of Mrs. Klinck
and himself, thanked the members of Senate for their
generous expression of good will and assured them their
action was deeply appreciated.
