Wednesday, June 10th, 1956
A special meeting of the Senate of The University of
British Columbia was called for Wednesday, June 10th,
1956, at 8:00 p.m., in the Board and Senate Room.
There were present: President L. S. Klinck (in the
Chair), Dean F. M. Clement, Acting Dean J. M. Turnbull,
Mr. A. H. Finlay, Dr. J. Roy Sanderson, Dr. G. G.
Sedgewick, Miss A. B. Jamieson, Mr. P. A. Boving, Mr.
John C. Oliver, The Most Rev. A. U. de Pencier and Mr.
Owen J. Thomas.
Expressions of regret at their inability to attend
Mr. Dilworth
the meeting were received from Mr. A. Webster, Dr.
Evlyn F. Farris, Mr. Sherwood Lett and Mr. A. E. Lord.
There were not enough members present to
constitute a quorum.

Dr. Sanderson) That certain items on the agenda,
that are not of a controversial
nature, be dealt with at this
meeting; and that the controversial
items on the agenda be laid on the
table until an adjourned meeting to
be called by the Chair.

Notice was received from the Secretary of the
Victoria  Board   of   School   Trustees   of   the   re-appointment   of
Principal  P.   H.   Elliott   as   representative   of Victoria
College   on  the   Senate   of  The  University   of British
Columbia.

"Approved, with the exception of certain modifications in the Department of Philosophy and
Psychology, to be made by the President and the
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science." 499.

4; A report of the joint conference of representatives
of the Provincial Department of Education and the University re Junior Matriculation Requirements in Music was
presented.

Mr. Thomas   ) That, subject to ratification by
{> Senate at the next meeting, the
proposed outline for the course in
the Music option for Junior
'( Matriculation be approved; and
that the Secretary of Senate be
instructed to write the Superintendent of Education stating the
action of this meeting.

The correspondence in reference to a convenient
time for conferring an honorary degree on His Excellency
the Governor-General was presented and ordered filed for
reference.

call of the Chair.
