Wednesday, November 10th, 1937
A special meeting of the Senate of The University
of British Columbia was held on Wednesday, November 10th,
1937, at 8:00 p.m., in the Board and Senate Room.
Present: President L. S. Klinck (in the Chair),
Dean F. M. Clement, Dean J. N. Finlayson, Dean D.
Buchanan, Dr. Blythe Eagles, Dr. D. G. Laird, Dr. M. Y.
Williams, Mr. A. H. Finlay, Mr. H. F. Angus, Mr. H. N.
MacCorkindale, Mr. J. N. Harvey, Major H. C. Holmes, Mr.
A. R. Lord, Mr. V. L. Denton, Dr. J. Roy Sanderson, Rev.
Dr. H. R. Trumpour, Mr. Sherwood Lett, Miss M. L.
Bollert, Mr. P. A. Boving, Dr. Evlyn F. Farris, The Most
Rev. A. U. de Pencier, Mr. Sydney Anderson and Mr. 0. J.
Thomas.
The Secretary read the call of the meeting:
"1.  Notices,-
(a) Two members of Faculty recommended
to the Superintendent of Education
to represent Senate on the Accrediting Board.
(b) Appointment of Committee to consider
the question of the Accrediting of
High Schools.
2. Offer of a Scholarship in French from the
Alliance Francaise of Vancouver.  Recommendation of the Faculty of Arts and
Science.
3. Accredited High Schools and University
Admission.  Statements from the Faculties,
Report of the Senate Committee."
Expressions of regret at their inability to attend
the meeting were received from Mr. Ira Dilworth, Miss
A. B. Jamieson, Mr. J. C. Oliver and Mr. A. A. Webster. 570.

question of the Accrediting of High Schools

Dr. M. Y. Williams.
An offer of a Scholarship in French was received
from the Alliance Francaise of Vancouver, together with
a recommendation of the Faculty of Arts and Science:-
That the offer of the Alliance Francaise
of a gift of $50.00, to be known as the
Alliance Francaise Bursary, be gratefully
accepted.

approved and that the thanks
of Senate be extended to the
Alliance Francaise for this
Bursary.

Accredited High Schools and University Admission.
The following statement from the Faculties was
presented:
"The question of Accredited High Schools and
University admission has been discussed by
the Faculties. 571.
Wednesday, November 10th, 1937
The following resolution has been passed by
each of the three Faculties:
'*
That this Faculty express a willingness to
co-operate with other bodies of the University in working out a scheme for admission
to the University involved in the broader
scheme of accrediting high schools."
The Senate Committee appointed to consider the
question of the Accrediting of High Schools presented
the following resolution:
That this Committee approve of the principle of admission to the University by
accrediting as under Section D of the
report submitted to Senate at its last
meeting. (October 20th).
