Tuesday, August 16th, 1921
610b. A special meeting of the Senate of The University of
British Columbia was held in the Board Room of the University on
Tuesday, the 16th day of August, 1921, at 8:00 P. M.
Present:  Dr. Coleman, Acting President, in the Chair;
Dr. R. E. McKechnie, Dean F. M. Clement, Mr. Wilfrid Sadler, Dr. E. H.
Archibald, Dr. T. H. Boggs, Dr. H. Ashton, Mr. L. F. Robertson, The
Right Rev. A. U. de Pencier, Mr. D. M. Robinson, Dr. G. G. Sedgewick,
Miss A. B. Jamieson, Mr. C. Killam, Mr. J. S. Gordon, Magistrate
H. C. Shaw, Dr. W. B. Burnett, Mr. J. M. Turnbull, Mr. G. E. Robinson,
Rev. A. H. Sovereign.

The Secretary read the call for the meeting, which follows:
Vancouver, B.C., Aug. 6th, 1921.
A special meeting of the Senate of The University of
British Columbia will be held in the Board Room of the University
on Tuesday, the 16th day of August, 1921, at 8:00 P. M.
Business:
The consideration of the following:
1. A proposal to increase the fees of students
at the forthcoming session to $75.00.
2. The general question of accommodation for
Increased attendance.

It was announced that Judge Howay had telephoned regretting
his inability to be present. • <

612 ^w0 communications having a direct relation to the ,
business for which the meeting was called, were presented, the first
from Mr. H. C. Weir, of Vancouver, and the second from Faculty.

Dean Clement) That Mr. Weir's letter be filed.  Carried
613a. The communication from Faculty follows:
The following resolution was passed at a meeting of
Faculty, August 15th, 1921, -
"Resolved that Faculty express itself as opposed to the
principle of exclusion of duly qualified students and
in favor only of such limitation of numbers as is permitted
under paragraph 6, page 42, of the calendar should this be
found absolutely necessary".
514 At the same meeting the following resolution was passed
unanimously, -
"That, in the opinion of Faculty, the fees should not be
increased beyond what they are at the present time."

Dean Clement) That in the opinion of Senate, the fees should
not be increased beyond what they are at the
present time.

613b.        Mr. G. E. Robinson) That the Senate express Itself as
opposed to the principle of exclusion of
