Array MINUTES OF STAFF MEETING HELD IN
THE LIBRARIAN'S OFFICE ON TUESDAY,
FEBRUARY 14, 1950, at 10 a.m.
Present: Dr. Dunlap, Miss Jefferd, Miss Lanning, Miss Smith,
Miss Rendell, Mr. Lanning, Mr. Rothstein, Miss Fugler.
Dr. Dunlap gave a brief report of his trip to Eastern
Canada, where he visited McGill University and the University
of Toronto, and called on Dr. Lamb in Ottawa. On the return
trip he visited libraries in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton
and Calgary and conferred with Canadian librarians on matters of
interest to the profession.
The American Library Association Committee which was
responsible for the arrangements for last summer's conference here
has sent the Library a cheque for $200. Dr. Dunlap expressed the
wish that it be used to further the welfare of the staff, and it
was agreed that it is desirable that this money should be turned
over to the Library Staff Association to be spent on one or more
items which the Association would not, in the ordinary course of
events, aspire to obtain.
Attention was drawn to three appointments to the
Faculty of Medicine. Mr. Rothstein mentioned that some medical
books, not all of the reference variety which might be expected
to remain in the Dean's office, have been received and sent to
Dean Weaver. The acquisitions Department would like instructions
regarding such books. The Librarian said that all books which
were not obviously for Dr. Weaver's office use should be
catalogued, but the cards not put into our general catalogue for
the present.
Miss Lanning said that a large number of overdue notices
had to be sent out for books on one-month loan. She would like
the Library to prepare a handbook on its regulations. Many of the
students still do not seem to understand those relating to loans.
Miss Lanning said she would also like to have the students'
opinions about the one-month loan period. Dr. Dunlap agreed that
this whole problem should be investigated thoroughly.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
