Dec ember It, 1962. No. 282
Reporting Division Heads Meetings and Other Matters of Interest to
the University of British Columbia Library Staff.
Present: IB, GD, DF, EH, RJL, AL, EM, TKN, JO'R, JR, JS, AMS,
Visiting Librarian.
Miss Naomi Fukuda, Librarian of the International House,
Tokyo, was on Campus December 2 to 5, to discuss our Asian Studies
Collection with Miss Ng and members of the Asian Studies Department.
She reported that we have a good working collection but lack many of
the older works, particularly back periodical files. She also
stressed the need for us to provide Miss Ng with more assistance
in the administration of the Library and to find additional funds
for the building up of the collections. Miss Fukuda, who is
visiting oriental collections on the West Coast under the sponsorship of the Rockefeller Foundation, presented the Library with a
copy of her recently published book listing the basic reference
works in Japanese.
Library Supplies and Expenses Account.
Attention was directed to the depleted Library Supplies
and Expenses Account. Of an initial appropriation of about #3U»000,
less than #7,000 remains to cover expenses during the last four
months of the fiscal year. Mr. Ranz sought the forbearance of the
Division Heads, noting that funds will obviously not be available
for many necessary and desirable purchases.
