Yes, you can» *>ut *•* *ets *oush* As of November 6th, in addition to a freeze on ordering
woks* we have ^en forced to place a freeze on hiring at all levels, and on ordering of
dl but essential supplies and equipment* There will be other economies as well, for ex-
itple, in binding of serials and the cancellation of periodical subscriptions* Thsse
['conditions will last until the end of March 1976* In the meantime, use your pencils
lovn to the stubs*
flitiPAlGN LITERATURE
fte Special Collections Division is trying to collect any materials published by the
various political parties for the upcoming provincial election* They would like to get
campaign literature, leaflets, letters frcn candidates and other provincial political
junk mail from all the different ridings. It would be greatly appreciated if library
itaff who live in ridings other than Point Grey would save this material and pass it on
to Special Collections* For those of us who do live in Feint Grey riding, don't forget to recycle*
COPPSAC
The Committee on Public and Processing Services and Catalogues will meet November 13,
1975 at 10:30 a.m. in the Floor 3 Conference Room* The agenda include:
1* k report on the FC classification which will replace the F 5000 call numbers
we assign at present*
2* The COM catalogue and its relation to 1976 imprints* Includes the question
of whether the entire FC classification or only 1976 imprints within this
s group should be included*
3* The main card catalogue and its possible overflow from the concourse into the
Science Livision* And you thought the dribble effect was bad*
4* The question of interfiling (Z + a subject call number) combinations used for
\ bibliographies in the main stacks and the location file*
'Anyone interested in contributing to the discussion of these topics is welcome to attend*
[Or, if you can bear to wait until the next Bulletin, we'll bring you the results of the
Committee's deliberations then*
SHRIMP
For the past three months we have been blessed with shipments of fresh shrimp at bargain
rates. These goodies are the results of the hard work of Bev Richards in Periodicals,
assisted by Dilma Huggett, Preparations, and volunteers in each of the divisions* Although
*e have been getting our orders at fairly regular monthly intervals so far, Bev says that
|this situation may not hold true for the winter because of storms and other problems
facing the distributors.
*hen orders are taken for the next shipment, life could be made a lot easier for Bev and
her helpers if people would stick to the ordering deadlines and not ask for late additions
to their orders*
«*• same company which provides the shrimp also offers live lobster, but Bev refuses to
handle" these* Anyone willing to coordinate buying lobster should speak to her for
*<*• details.
^*t we need now is somewhere to exchange shrimp recipes. If you have a pet recipe that
Calls for shrimp, leave a copy with Joye Wheater in the Information and Orientation office
*°4 she'll see that it gets posted on the bulletin board near her desk* LIBRARY MAIL SERVICE
In order to facilitate communication between the Canadian Library Association and its
members and to ensure the continuation of important CLA activities during the postal
strike, central drop-off points have been designated in every region of the country*
For B.C., letters, documents, membership forms, cheques, and orders should be forwarded
to the Library Development Commission offices in Vancouver* The exact address is:
Paul Kitchen, Executive Director, Canadian Library Association, c/o B.C. Library
Development Commission, 203-1525 West 8th Avenue, Attention: Alice Simpson*
GIFTS & EXCHANGES RECORD GALLERY
Our used lp record section is doing a good business at 500 per disc. A new selection
will be in stock by the time this issue of the Bulletin is published* Shakespeare's
plays are waiting for the right person to take them home. Come in and browse. All
proceeds go into the book funds. So far we've taken in about $120*
