near future make recommendations for the disbanding or redesigning of some of them.
Group A below comprises a list of the existing committees, Group B a list of those either

NEW APPOINTMENT:
>- ———_—_^__
Mrs. Juliette Stevens has been appointed to the position of Reference Librarian in the
Sedgewick Library effective September 1, 1970. Mrs. Stevens is a recent graduate of the
U.B.C. School of Librarianship and has been working this summer on a special bibliographic
project in the Humanities Division.

SECURITY:
Staff have recently become careless in leaving the door on Level 5 in front of the south
(or "new") elevator wide open, enabling students to leave the stacks without signing out
material. It is essential that this door be kept locked at all times, especially when the
turnstile is closed.
PHYSICAL PLANT:
The Librarian's Office wishes to stress that all communications with the Physical Plant
should be routed through them. It is vital that they should in this way always be fully
informed, as they are otherwise unable to handle questions and other feed-back directed to
them.
CURRICULUM LABORATORY: SUMMER SESSION HOURS:
The Curric. Lab. will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. up to August 15.
STAFF PHOTOGRAPHS:
Those who have not been photographed for their Library card are reminded that they may
have their picture taken any week-day between 9 and 12 or 2 and 5 by presenting themselves
at the Circulation Office. - 2 -
SHARED CATALOGUE,
As of August 1st S.F.U. are back in the scheme on a 6-months' trial basis. Their continued
participation thereafter will depend on statistics taken. U.B.C.'s share of the alphabet
now reverts to W-Z and A-B.
EXPO 70 IN RETROSPECT:
If you cannot see Expo 70 for yourself, you are invited to come up to Special Collections
and see their display of pictures. Needless to say, the lucky travelers are equally welcome.
Also on display is a selection of photographs from Curtis' North American Indians.
BUCHANAN EXTENSION:

Demolition of the Gymnasium is scheduled for completion circa August 11. The trees in the
area will then be transplanted, whereupon hoardings will be erected to enclose the building
site by about September 4. It is hoped to establish local traffic patterns before the main
body of students returns to Campus.
PARKING STICKERS:
"Parking stickers for the 1970-71 academic year will be on sale at the Traffic Office,
Wesbrook Crescent (near 16th Avenue) at 7.30 a.m. 1 August 1970. All faculty, staff and
students are urged to get a new parking sticker as soon as possible to avoid the congestion
during Registration Week in September." - J.F. McLean, Director, Personnel, Labour Relations
and Ancillary Services.
NEW SEDGEWICK LIBRARY:
___________________________ ^ ^
The architects and contractors are working toward a final price and are currently receiving
bids from the sub-trades. Unfortunately, it now appears that excavation will be delayed until
September.'

MAIN LIBRARY SECURITY:
The University Patrol is still reporting doors left open after closing hours. Would people
leaving the building late please check to see that the door is locked behind them as they
depart, especially on weekends.
